In a totally random location is this small Chinese grocery shop. It’s very clean, with a wide variety of interesting oriental food. There is frozen and fridge section which hosts a variety of fresh, green vegetables.

First time I walked in here I walked straight into a huge raw hanging chicken. Deeeee-lish. But I was quickly captivated by the giant cucumber, wider and longer than a watermelon. And the aisles of some staple cooking products: dozens of ramen choices, any sauce you can imagine(3 kinds of fish sauce, that is), big bags of rice, korean products, tofu, and even a row of every chinese candy in crazy colors that melt in your mouth, not in your hand. Today I purchased bean sprouts(0.49p) and some fish sauce(0.60p). Talk about making pad-thai for cheaper than a restaurant. Every time I have been in there, the guy that works there has been friendly, has offered to help find any product, discussed health benefits of above named giant cucumber, and was not phased in the least bit by the giant amount of raw hanging meat. Now, thats a real man.

ChinaArk, how delighted I was to find you nestled between the Whitechapel and Stepney Green tube stations. I never thought I’d find a Chinese market quite like you, at least around here. You’re small, but you’re fiesty. Ramen selection? Check. Many frozen dumplings? Check. Chinese veggies, frozen seafood and fish balls? Check, check check. The best part? Your wonderful employee who made me feel like a complete winner for picking the new sea coconut and bamboo beverage in the refrigerator case. Hands down the most pleasant interaction I’ve had in Whitechapel in weeks.
