The first time I came here it was to see my new neighbourhood a couple of years ago, a bar just round the corner from me, a cuban feel with people standing outside sounds like a good recipe. Its located just down the road from the legendary boogaloo in leafy highgate, its just that that road happens to be unfashionable one near where I live and on a small stretch of shops which had been in so much flux that Marty McFly could have refilled his time machine from the local ether. Apart from the Boogaloo, Highgate is pretty much devoid of late night drinking. This, then new kid on the block, gave me the initial impression of how it will soon return. It was quiet, it had a very heavy bouncer and frankly a little seedy. Since then whenever I pass there seems to be good music playing and happy people outside as it slowly grew and last night(a Friday night) i returned, the place was full. There was no cover charge, the big bouncer remained but everyone was dancing and happy to the a songbird of wonderful clarity belting out soul and jazz until 3 in the morning. I may have been drunk but I left that place smiling. How wrong I was and a wonderful addition to the area. Perhaps I should return with a more sober head. My only complaint it that they need to have a website. They seem to have different regular performances which Id like to know about :) A wonderful new gem(at night anyway, during the day it still looks seedy!)
