Amazing wait staff! They were so kind and helpful. The beouf burgeneon was good, but I’ve had better. Nice ambiance and in a great location.

We flew in on the red eye from Boston. By the time we got into the area it was still to early to check in so we went out for breakfast. I had eggs florentine, my husband had eggs Benedict and my daughters had scrambled eggs and bacon. I loved mine and my husband raved about his breakfast. My youngest was unsure about the difference between American bacon and British bacon but my oldest assured her it was fantastic. Overall, it was comfortable and the food was very good. I also found it much cheaper than others have rated it here. I will go back.

We stopped by Café Rouge after browsing around Harrod’s, as it is directly across the road. It seemed a bit daft to stop by a French-style café after coming back from Paris, but c’est la vie! My family loves set menus, as they make decisions easier for the indecisive like myself. For lunch, I had the bacon & avocado salad, omelette & fries, and an Eton mess for dessert. My brother got the same salad and the poulet provençal. — Salad: Good. It was a simple salad, but it was done well. I enjoyed it and was really looking forward to my next course. — Omelette & fries: Nothing really extraordinary about them. Mushroom omelette(you get the choice of fillings) was fine and the fries were also fine. — Eton mess: Good. No other real comments here. My brother and I didn’t really love the black olive mash that was served with the chicken. It was weird. Service was a bit slow because they didn’t seem to have many servers for all the tables, both indoors and out, so we did have to wait a bit longer than we would’ve liked. All in all, decent place to eat that is VERY close to Harrod’s.

Not sure why this place has such horrible rating. After spending a few hours in Harrod’s I was starving, so I decided to try Café Rouge which I heard was amazing. It was literally a minute away from Harrod’s. I walk in and wait about 5 minutes– no one even looked at my guest and I…(This was the only thing that really made me annoyed and made me want to walk out) Finally once we were noticed, we sat down and ordered our drinks. I then got the BAGUETTEROUGE which was amazing for 9.95 — the meat was prepared perfectly to my order, the fries were great. Food was excellent. Service could be better. Seating. eh, for London it works! I definitely will return.

I’d like to give it a 4* really as it was nice and clean and orderly. It just loses a star on slow service, although the service itself was fine. Considering its located just behind Harrods I was reluctant to go in imagining it would be crammed with tourists, but there was space enough that it wasn’t over crowded. Great coffees and nice snacks menu for light bites.

Café Rouge is placed just behind Harrods, making it an ideal location for staff(whose entrance is next door) and those waiting for the famous store to open. Having scheduled a meeting within this little French café, one might notice how it is the same as being back in Paris. French waiters, French menu and French portion sizes. Refreshing. The food leaves one wanting to venture into another restaurant. Having ordered the omelette I was shocked to pay £.75 for 6 thumb-nail(paper thin) slices of smoked salmon, along with the equivalent of one golf ball of potatoes. The menu is fairly steep, even for the location, considering everyone I ate with was completely unimpressed and hungry. Also we found our waiter a bit stiff and not very accommodating. In a pinch, or simply too lazy to find something else this is fine. Otherwise look down the road.

I have to say i agree with the reviews of this restaurant. Out of hunger we tried this place with the hope it had improved but i am sad to say we had no such luck.

I have eaten at some horrible Café Rouges in the past but, like your local bank, chains are only as good as the local senior manager. And also, waiters are all different. And remember, managers move on so the new manager might change things for the better. The Café Rouge in Basil Street, just behind Harrods, is a very nice version of Café Rouge. And, considering the area, we thought the prices were very reasonable. My wife and I sat outside, and most of the tables were filled with people just drinking coffee or beer. Our waitress was a very friendly Turkish girl and my wife and I warmed to her immediately. We shared a dish of Fougasse bread(a bread from Provence in a pattern of an ear of wheat) with three dips, a Humus, Aioli(mayonnaise and garlic) and a cherry tomato and chilli(mild). We each had a glass of nicely chilled Chenin Blanc(from France not South Africa) which had a sweeter taste, but the after-taste was quite dry. At the end of this we were very full and the damage was £13.45 before tip. This was at four o’clock and all we could manage that evening was a light meal. As a final note, if many of you are fussy about coffee and have always avoided Café Rouge establishments because they only had filter coffee, left on the warmer until it got cooked, you’ll now be relieved to know that this café now has an Espresso machine and offers all the variances such as Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte and Americano.

How hard is it to make a Croque Monsieur? Ham and cheese, bread, under the grille until it is hot and bubbly, right? Well this ‘French’ bistro can’t seem to make one to save their life. I used to enjoy coming to this CR behind Harrods. Yes, it was cliché French café fare, but quite dependable in a pinch and not bad for a spot of lunch. Slowly though, it started to go downhill, more hit or miss. To confirm its downward spiral, today as I slumped into a chair in what I hoped would be an easy and relaxing meal, I ordered my go-to comfort food of Croque Monsieur. It arrived not even toasted but since the top looked melted, I felt all would be well. Cut into it and it was cold and not cooked through. I asked for it to be heated more as it was just a cold plate of mess. I was brought a new one, but again SAME problem of it not being cooked. I never make a fuss or send things back, never, I usually grin and bare it. But this time I HAD to as it was just this plate of mush! How can you mess up the same dish twice??? I had had enough, ordered a salad but really just wanted to get out. Maybe it has become more a scene of late. A place to have a glass of wine with friends and less about sitting down for a meal. I myself, will not be going back.

I have to admit that I like Café Rouge because you get exactly what it says on the tin — typical French food in a typically French atmosphere. Even though the menu isn’t going to rock a foodie’s world, you can bet your bottom Euro that you’ll get a decent Croque Monsieur here. The fries are always good, as are the salads, and the charcuterie platter is a good bet, but you’ll need to ask for extra bread because they never serve enough. I tend to reserve my visits to the big stores in Knightsbridge for Christmas shopping or for mini Epic tours with out-of-town friends. Following all the crowds that are synonymous with Knightsbridge shopping days, I tend to find myself in the relative quiet of Basil Street, sitting with a coffee at an outdoor table, whatever the weather, people-watching. So much as I rate Café Rouge for reliable nourishment on the go, this one I rate in particular for its location. Count the chauffeurs, for they often hover here, waiting for their employers to return with all manner of designer shopping bags.

Auf französisch getrimmter Ort für eine Kaffeepause abseits der belebten Straßen und eine preiswerte Alternative zum teuren Harrods-Café. Neben Touristen überwiegend Angestellte der umliegenden Geschäfte und Büros als Publikum.

Directly across the street from some massive department store, this is the place where the summertime somebody people* sip pricey coffee and smoke fags(actually illegal now) while staring at their Lamborghini Diablo’s and Ferrari Enzo’s parked out front, waiting for their wives or lovers to come out of Harrods after just spending £100000 on tiskets and taskets nobody needs but will look good in the kids’ room or will be called lovely by a guest in five years time so the wife can then say: «Oh yes, I found it at Harrods ages ago.» She prob could have bought it at Boots for lyke £10 quid. * -

After walking around the busy Knightsbridge area, this Café Rouge, if you can grab an outside seat, is a good place to stop off for a bite and relax over a glass of wine, or a chilled out coffee. We stopped off and had a warming French onion soup which came with melted Gruyère croutons, and a large glass of white wine, and ended with a cup of coffee. It was a sunny day, and sitting outside looking at all the people milling by was very enjoyable. This French chain offers breakfast, lunch and dinner here, and a children’s menu can be provided if need be.
