Yum! I’m not the world’s greatest burger fan being a pescatarian and veggie/fish burgers can often be a disappointment. However, it’s difficult at the moment to avoid burgers as they seem to be available everywhere. However, Burger and Shake did not disappoint. It’s a small restaurant with an American diner style décor. We sat in a booth which was a bit cosy. There are a range of burgers on the menu with sides and also a specials board. The milkshakes looked very tasty although also very filling so I declined although I may be tempted in future. There was also a range of bottled beers which seemed a bit expensive albeit from a non Londoners perspective. I had a shrimp burger which was a patty made from salmon and prawns which held it’s shape well in addition to being very tasty. The bun and aioli sauce accompanied the patty well. We also shared chips and onion rings which came in good sized portions. The onion rings in particular were very good as they were crispy and not limp, Service was good although a discretionary service charge was applied to the bill which can be controversial for some.

I was a little hesitant to step in here as from a quick perusal of the menu outside it seemed that they didn’t have a veggie patty(but instead just a mushroom/halloumi combo which I think is less exciting, imho). But it was freeeeezing outside and so I took the plunge. I’ve long been a fan of the diner concept and it looked welcoming and relaxing inside. I ended up ordering 2 sides and taking my time with them. The jalapeño bites were unexpectedly home-made and PHENOMENAL! I even asked my server how they were made and he very kindly talked me through the process. I was really very impressed, and even more so, since I couldn’t face wandering out into the cold right away, they let me spend an extra half-hour before my next appt just hanging out quietly with my kindle, no questions asked: D

Just dreadful. Frozen chips, burger that was both tasteless and horrible, a milkshake that tasted processed and, dare I say it, fatty. The whole thing was just… overly fatty and disgusting. Would’ve been better off at McDonald’s or at the nearby GBK. Bumper prices, substandard everything else, including service.

I’m visiting London from California and tonight I wanted dinner that did have some unexpected ingredient I it. We picked this place over the Italian down the street. It was an excellent choice I got the fried chicken burger. The fried chicken was average but the bun was divine. And it was nice to see good ol Ketchup and mayo on the table. We also got the sweet potato fries(awesome) and the house red(not bad). Good job London — you got a nice hold on American food while keeping your English flair.

They sell burgers and shakes, houseburger decent, shake good, beer cold and sweet potato fries fine. Pulled pork however not reccommended.

Came in around 21:00 on a Sunday after reading great reviews about this place. Small place and friendly staff. Great tasting meat — was apprehensive about the medium rare standard but it was pretty good. As an American, this was a standard burger place, but it was nice to find a low-key spot during our hectic trip. The buffalo wings were my favorite!

You know, not bad. Pretty tight space, with booths that remind me of American diners, and serving plates to match. US beers(SIERRANEVADAPALEALE, I’LLTAKEYOU) and fizzy drinks served cold in glass bottles. There are a range of burger options, from pretty basic(patty and special sauce) to pulled pork and the special(though it’s fairly regularly an item): a shrimp burger, which is mixed with salmon, jalapeños and garlic for some kick. I recommend the latter as it’s something a little different. The buns are GREAT; soft and pillowy and toasted and buttery. Carb-phobics beware. As seems to be standard at many of London’s top burger spots: you get a burger. Full stop. No fries included or fancy sides. So you tack those on. I didn’t, but I looked enviously on as another munched on wings and a side of hot sauce-doused fries. Envious: TOPLEVELS. In sum: really solid option in the area. Staff friendly, vibe good, nothing fancy. Unilocal note: if you sit in the back booth by the ice-cream maker and it happens to be in «churn mode» it can be… noisy. I know I sound like an old grump saying this, but: I truly couldn’t hear! Depending on your company that might be an advantage? I dunno. I leave that up to you. But: noisy booth at times!

I was starving hungry a few nights ago when I walked by Burger and Shake. I was reluctant to go in because I thought I was somehow cheating on London by having some American food. It didn’t take long for me to get over this guilt after seeing the burgers in the windows. They have tons of options, including a vegetarian option. We went with the pulled pork burger and it was FANTASTIC. Probably one of the best burgers I’ve had at a restaurant. It was cooked medium rare(my favorite) and was dripping with juicy goodness. We also ordered the mac & cheese with bacon, as well as a strawberry shake. I didn’t find the mac & cheese that good at all. It was somewhat cold and tasted like store-bought mac & cheese. The shake was a little small, but very delicious. We ordered the strawberry, but they have tons of flavors(e.g., chocolate, banana, salted caramel, etc.). Overall, a great stop in London. Come on by and get a burger and shake!

It was a jolly good time mate! We ordered a burger with pulled pork on top. It was cooked to perfection! Nice medium rare burger. It was quite brilliant. Also had a marvelous strawberry shake.

The food here is fabulous. The cheeseburger is the kind where juices drip out and you need chips to dip in them. Both are amazing. The macaroni is satisfying and a side order is a small meal. Service is friendly and local. You must try a burger medium rare! Oh and the music rocks.

It’s a very nice surprise and discovery. Small but very characteristic. Great burgers and amazing milkshakes. Affordable and to come back for sure.

Stop by here to try the £6 pulled pork sandwich. The portion was great, a generous helping of pulled pork and coleslaw. The pull pork was pretty good, nothing really special, but the coleslaw on top really pulled the burger together. The slaw was not to saucy and added that extra crunch to the burger to balance the texture of the pull pork. I really like the flavor the onion and the parsley added to the slaw it was what raised the sandwich from ok to «seconds please.»

I love burger and shake! The burgers are really juicy and messy and the fries are really good! Some might find the burgers a tad oily but I liike them this way! They do a range of other bits and pieces too if you dont fancy a burger and they do great lunch deals! The music is retro and the place has an american diner it! Totally reccomend this for a quick bite!

At first look nothin’ more than a small and typical English local. Go in and you will find more: amazing burgers, good and friendly service. speechless! At the end, let’s choose a delicious dessert with hot chocolate and icecream or a cake made with a cookie basement, banana and cream. Prize as the same as all London City(10£-15£ each persons).

Medium rare is the default here. Win. Prices and portions, though, aren’t as competitive next to GBK. I’d like to think of my jalapeño burger as a really big slider. The stand-out for me are the milkshakes; you’ll be pleased to know some can be firewater fortified. Very pleased to see salted caramel on the menu, how very Yankee.

Ordered a chicken cheese burger without pepper and they removed all pepper components from the burger recipe. Meal was delicious. Excellent service from the staff.

Normally at this time I’m home in LA for the summer, eating lots of burgers and drinking lots of milkshakes so lately I’ve been having cravings for these two things. I’ve had lots of good burgers in London but I had yet to find a place that also offers milkshakes. First, the milkshake. I ordered the mint one, which I wasn’t aware was a possible flavour but was extremely excited about because I love mint. It was so thick and creamy and absolutely delicious! One of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had. Served in the stainless steel cup with a straw, frosted and freezing cold. Perfect. Next our burgers. We ordered the hamburger and the chicken burger with two small sides of fries. Everything about the burgers were so good: the bun, the toppings, the beef, the deep fried chicken especially! My boyfriend enjoyed the fries but unfortunately I did not, some were a bit soggy and reminded me of In-n-Out fries which I don’t like. More of personal preference but I’m still glad I tried them. Aside from the food the location is also spot on, very close to Bloomsbury campuses. The meal for the two of us was kind of pricey(£23) but it was definitely worth it. Next time I just won’t get the fries.

I like it. There aren’t very many truly tasty places to have lunch on a budget near Russell Square(there are some places that are okay… but nothing to write home about.) I have had lunch-time burger cravings before, but although GBK isn’t bad, it is always let down by the appalling service… so this new burger joint is a welcome new edition to Russell Square. With this in mind, I think the previous reviewer, Sid was a little harsh. Nom: * The cheeseburger was lovely, juicy and filling(with a soft brioche bun) * There was a veggy option with haloumi if you have non-meat-loving friends * My Muslim colleague was chuffed to see they serve both pork and beef hotdogs * The salted caramel shake was sweet, yummy and ridiculously huge! I am glad I shared mine, or I would have been too full to move! * The staff were friendly and sweet * The cocktails looked lovely, but we couldn’t try them — seriously, who has a cocktail with a burger for a normal Tuesday lunch?! Slightly less impressive: * I liked the chicken wings, but they weren’t particularly special. I don’t think I’d order them again.(Although my colleague loooved the cheese-y dipping sauce that they came with!) * I thought it was just a bit too pricey for lunch(£8ish for a burger, £4 milkshake, £5 wings is waaay more than I normally spend at lunch time!) So all in all… I like it, but it is a little out of my lunchtime price range!
