Brixton Underground Station

It’s a fairly modern station, but not one that will leave any lingering memories good nor bad. The platforms have both lift and escalator access and unlike some other stations you don’t have to go up a bank of stairs to access either.
Platforms are reasonably wide, although given that this is the terminus of the Victoria line, you shouldn’t have to wait long on them. It’s in a good location in the middle of the high street.
My only complaint is that the design is so generic when something special could have been done for Brixton. Mind you, this isn’t exactly the Moscow subway, so what can you expect?
Today’s external entertainment are two different Christian preachers and a woman playing an accordion next to a St Bernard. At least the dog is cute.

The station sufficiently catered for all of my transport requirements for the day, taking both away from Brixton, and returning to (although not simultaneously I hasten to add). The station forecourt was of reasonable dimensions, and I was delighted to discover the local newsagent trader sold fry’s Turkish delight! I inspected the rest of the ticket hall whilst nibbling on my confectionary. The tickets machine sold and array of tickets and I confirm the tickets barriers open and close without incident. All in all I believe Brixton station to be of adequate grounding although it lacks any real flair or unique character. Would it not be too much to ask to add a bit kitsch? Cocktails on arrival? Dancing flamingoes to accompany you up the stairs?

Just a basic tube (subway) station at one end of the Victoria line. There are simply loads of machines available to top up your Oyster card. Trains leave about every 4 minutes and it only takes about 10 minutes into central London. The location is really central in the heart of Brixton with lots of shops, cafes and markets nearby.

I heart so many things about Brixton. First off, this is the nearest Tube stop to my friend’s house, so plus one for that. And everything you need is within a spit and a dance away. Pubs, shops, markets, food, BRIXTON, YOU HAVE IT ALL.

The location of this station is what makes it, really. Right in the heart of the High Street, you’ve got lush green parks to the left and the bustling award-​winning Brixton Village Market to the right.
Being at the end of the Victoria line, the trains are always empty so getting a seat isn’t a problem, they run on time and they even smell clean and fresh. I went into the station and didn’t even have to wait for a train — there was one there waiting, ready for me to hop straight on and take a seat.
The connections are good too. Just a few stops from Victoria station and there’s a lovely flower seller outside which really brightens up the place. Just wonderful, and I never thought I’d say that about Brixton.
The only downside is that there are signs to Brixton national rail service and when I followed them, I couldn’t see it. So unless it’s covered by a big invisibility cloak on Sundays, the signing needs to be a bit clearer there. I walked 20 minutes to Herne Hill in the end.

i use this station on a daily basis to commute to work. on the way back home, i’m usually delirious and start noticing strange things i wouldn’t see if i was alert.
today i saw a woman with a large suitcase waiting by the double doors as the train pulls into the brixton station. the suitcase is silver, but something seems odd about it. she’s guarding it very carefully. she’s of small build and doesn’t look like she can handle it, it is out of proportion.
suddenly i see a red flash where everything in the tube disappears, except the silver suitcase, only it looks now like its passing through an airport x-​ray machine. i look into the contents of the suitcase, and to my horror, there is a small human curled inside.
the red flash disappears as suddenly as it comes and everything is the way it was, only i am left with an indelible feeling of dread. I quickly move to the other side of the train to get off and avoid this woman.
going up the escalator, the bright sunlight greets my tired glazed eyes and i feel right again.

I love Brixton Underground station like I love Brixton! Its in the heart of everything great about Brixton! Brixton village, market, Ms Cupcake and Plan B etc.
You come out of this station and their is sooo much character… people are already giving you leaflets whether its religious or for some next cause.
I like the Newsagents in the station I really feel they stock a whole range of magazines that you sometime cant get elsewhere like a few Black magazines which are rare but it at this station.
I like the Victoria line and the fact that it has Euston station as one of the stops make it is easy for to get a London Midland train from Watford change at Euston which is eight stops to Brixton which makes me get to my beloved area in hour.

I have never waited at this station for a train. Ever. And by that I mean that there always seems to be a train just about to leave and I always make it. Probably jinxed myself now. Ahh well.
I love Brixton station for many a reason. Because passing through here I am either on my way into Brixton, which I love, or I’m on my way home from Brixton which means I’ve had a fabulous day! Win win! Lots of my favourite people live in Brixton (yes, JB, I’m looking at you!)
I love the Vicky blue line — she’s quick and central and takes me right up to Finsbury Park in a jiffy so I can jump on her darker blue brother, the Piccadilly line.
So, Brixton station — you are my favourite end-​of-​line station in London. Thanks for the fond memories, I’ll be back to see you soon!

When it’s not filled with people trying to get AWAY from Brixton (after, say, a big gig @ the Academy). When the Victoria Line isn’t shut, Brixton Underground is fab. Why?
Gets you most of the places you want to go (and a few places you don’t) quick-​like.
Bonus: Free random strangers begging random things from you.
You can almost always get a seat, even at 0830
Extra bonus: the flower seller outside of the station is fabulous.

I love this station!
It’s conveniently placed in the centre of my beloved town and gives easy access to The Village, The Market, The Academy and The High Street.
Being at the very end of the Victoria line, you are almost always guaranteed a seat in the morning, and it’s generally a pleasant journey into town.

12 minutes to Green Park
14 minutes to Oxford Circus
18 minutes to Euston
27 minutes to Kings Cross
Really what more could one ask for? In addition to those stellar times, let us not forget that just one stop away, and you’re in Stockwell where you can change for the dreadful naughty Northern Line. Oh the Northern Line, never a pleasure always a chore!

Really like this tube as because it’s the begining of the line you’ll get a seat. Also, it only takes 20 mins to get to Kings Cross. A lot quicker in comparison to the northern line.

I was attacked here by some scumbag who was jumping the barriers. Brixton Tube Station, despite all the reassurance you might hear from people who live in the area, is still one of the scariest places in London. People regularly jump the barriers in the evenings. Memo to the police: why don’t you stand in the police station and arrest every single person who jumps the barriers. Give them five years apiece and watch the crime levels in Brixton plunge. There are some good people who live in Brixton and many more who have to get off at the station because it is the last stop on the Victoria line. They all deserve a police force that actually bothers to police the area.

Brixton tube station does its job. You can get all the necessary tickets and oysters there and there is a manned ticket desk if the machines cant help you. As it is the beginning/​end of the Victoria line there is nearly always a train waiting at one of the two platforms and you can nearly always get a seat. Enjoy the calming classical music as you glide down the escalator.

I haven’t been to Brixton for years. Turns out that right now it’s grottier than ever, as all the tiles have been ripped off the walls as part of renovations. The results remain to be seen! One thing they seem to be keeping though is the panels which portray what appears to be a tonne of bricks. Ha ha.
Then entrance way has changed. It used to be small and grotty. It’s now spacious and wide, with architecture reminiscent of some of the modern buildings in the city (though not so nice). Nothing to write home about, but improved. Maybe the rest of the station will follow suit.
Anyway Brixton is one of those places people feel a little scared of going. It’s much exaggerated of course. Not a place to flash your wallet around if you want to stay in possession of it, but that’s true anywhere really. Lots of people of all ages around, including quite a trendy and alternative crowd. Brixton is the end of the Victoria Line, so no chance of missing your stop.
