Very expensive for some home cooked food. Won’t be eating here again or recommending it to anyone. I could have flown home, eaten in Bucharest and still had change £80 for some cabbage, chicken, pork and polenta and a Mexican beer!

My friends and I were trying to eat our way around Europe. And at that time, Romania was just poised to join the EU. However, Romanian restaurants in London were thin on the ground, so after much searching, we found this restaurant above a pub in Edmonton. Unlikely a place as it is, this is Romanian cuisine par excellence, and well known in the ROmanian community. Menus in Romanian, Romanian TV beamed on to a large screen, and Romanian music, every night, above a battered-looking pub in the middle of nowhere. It’s convivial, it’s fun, and if you’re prepared to try a place where you don’t know exactly what you’re eating, come here! I didn’t enjoy the vegetarian option the house offered — polenta and a pile of feta cheese — but the meat eaters fared rather better.
