I tried Bizzby’s on-demand local services for a few minor fix-it projects around the house. Overall, I was pleased but there are a few quirks. First thing, I was surprised to learn that they are truly *on-demand*. You cannot book an appointment ahead of time or schedule someone to come to your place for next Saturday morning. It’s like Über: you can only request the service right when you need it. This definitely makes sense for an urgent plumber booking, but for regular service? OK fine, so when I woke up on Saturday morning I requested my service, and the web app told me a handyman would be £55 per hour and the nearest one was about 65 minutes away. Again, I would have preferred to be able to schedule an appointment, but I suppose«someone will be there in an hour and a bit» is better than«someone will be there between 12pm and 4pm so please sit tight and waste your whole afternoon mmmk?» Moving on, my handyman arrived as planned and handled my tasks just fine. One final minor annoyance came in the promo code scheme. I had booked the service using a friend’s referral link, but apparently this is not enough to pass on the promo code. You’re meant to also enter the promo code in a hidden field in your profile screen. This led to me not getting £20 off my first booking when I thought I would. Bummer. Overall, the price seems reasonable for the service. Given the 1 hour minimum, I’d probably use them again when I can string together enough small jobs(hang this, tighten this, etc) to warrant a booking.
