For a quick burrito after some drinks at the pub Benito’s Hat is fine, but I don’t think it’s one of the better Mexican chains in London. The interior is fun and they have a good selection of food. The amount of meat and guac they put inside is smaller than at places like Chipotle and Tortilla, but the prices around the same. The first time I came was with a big group and we got the margarita pitchers as we thought the idea of having a bar inside was great. Sadly they were very artificial tasting and full of too much sugar — definitely not worth £12! Fine if you’re in the area and after a quick bite, but I’d venture elsewhere for better tasting food and more for your money if you have the time.

Great tasting burritos and even better they have happy hour margaritas every night between 5 and 7. There are a few tables inside and most of the space is taken by counters. But the atmosphere is enjoyable with low level lighting and the décor. The staff are friendly and helpful too.

Cheerful title and a good back story always win me over. I tip my hat to you. The café literature describes Benito’s Hat as a family built and run cantina serving up fresh, homestyle Mexican food. It’s named after one of the Mexican presidents who had a notable affinity for decorative hats. Makes sense. I cannot yet comment on the food, though I am sure I will be back to try their tempting burritos and tacos. However, I tried basically all of their happy hour cocktails. The frozen classic margarita along with the un-frozen were the winners for me. The unfrozen definitely tasted more boozy but the ice cold one was perfection. The mojito was solid as well, definitely not skimping on the rum here. I sipped on the Tommy’s margarita which was less citrusy(sans the triple sec) and perhaps for those wanting a rougher, less fruity marg. The staff were super helpful explaining the various cocktail varieties and put up with us clinging desperately on to the 2 hour happy hour and buying up double drinks within the last 5 minute grace period. I love the festive, Latino vibe. I also love that one whole side of this place is a bar while another whole side is the burrito assembly-line-cafeteria-kitchen set up. Hats off!
