Guys, maybe I’ve just lived in Shoreditch too long. Does every shop seem to be selling the same things? Expensive, delicate apothecary items that seem to lack utility. Personal grooming devices that appear to be from the 1800’s/steampunk, but are actually new and very expensive. Leather bound notebooks and journals aplenty. Tech gadgets resembling other items. Rustic looking hardware pieces. A cushion or two priced 80+ for good measure. Blankets. What is going on?! Is there a little supplier out back in Bethnal Green that makes hipster goods and schleps them in on the downlow each week? The preciousness of it all is a bit lost on me, but its fun none the less I suppose. Grab a cold pressed juice, it heals the pain a bit. What Barber & Parlour DOES have going for it is variety. A barber shop, a beauty salon, a movie theatre, a café, shopping… what else is in here?! I’m not even sure. We popped in for a little look around and were amused with the cacophony of activities being simultaneously undertaken by the super coiffed masses of East London. Great use of the space, bravo to that. A sight to be seen for sure.

On my latest trip to London, the stars truly aligned as Smoke and Salt were hosting a very rare pop up at Barber & Parlour. For £30 we were welcomed with a cocktail, three courses, then an extra sweet treat — plus some beauty goodies, presumably donated by the folk behind B & P! Location wise, it’s very Shoreditch. Hello bare brick, shared working space(a barbers? a café? a restaurant? a shop? a cinema?) and plenty of attractive people. Cue feeling a tad out of place but more than ready for the food! We started with beer sticks, the latest trend in bar food, pretzels with whipped treacle butter and bbq sprouts. My starter choice was ‘seamless ravioli’, basically a deconstructed dish with some delicious components making up a really simple but spectacular dish. Main was ox cheek with a variety of vegetable extras, followed by another deconstructed dish, this time pumpkin pie. And it’s never tasted so good! Top this off with some toast your own s’mores and you’ve got a very happy evening. This visit definitely highlighted B & P to me as a destination for food, plus everything else!

I decided to make the trek across London(from the West) to visit my friend who lives in Shoreditch at her local — Barber and Parlour, and what an amazing find! Not only is it über cool in décor, but it’s a homewares store, a barber(as stated on the box), and a cinema, with amazing coffee and food, to boot! My first visit there was a friendly catch up, so during the space of two hours I knocked back two skim lattes while my friend had a fresh juice and a soup. She loved hers and I would say that my coffees were eminently drinkable, certainly above average for london! I was so impressed with the beauty of this place that I decided to take my hubby back for a visit. I had avocado on toast and hubby had boiled eggs and soldiers. As usual I had ordering envy. The avo on toast was nice, but the eggs and soldiers were something special! Next time I’d love to check out the cinema! Would definitely go back to this place.

It’s a cool space that wears a lot of hats, that’s for sure. It’s part restaurant, part coffee shop, part barber, part cinema, part nail bar, part hangout, part everything. At first glance, you expect it to be really harried and busy but it’s not. It’s just… chilled out. Hats off for sure. I didn’t try any of the food or the barber shop or the cinema or anything else it does so I’m not sure how it measures up in those respects, but I guess for me, it was a bit too hipster. The menu was literally ‘Green — 3′ and a list of ingredients, which I worked out was the name of a smoothie and the price. Is the £ too much of an effort for you? And the word ‘smoothie’ or ‘juice’? I don’t know. But the juice tasted nice, the food looked good and I saw smiling faces all around so it can’t be too bad. I’ll definitely have to give it another try for lunch some time and make a proper judgement. Oh Shoreditch. You so hip.

I brunched here with a few friends last weekend, as one of them lives in Shoreditch and recommended this place. It appears to be part of Electric Cinema, but we were just there for the restaurant, which is a nice, spacious converted warehouse-type space on the ground floor. They don’t take reservations, but we were given an estimated wait time of 15 – 20 minutes, and there wasn’t anyone else in the queue. When we were seated, we shared half of a long table with another party, but there were a few other types of seating arrangements around — a good number of smaller tables that would have seated 4 people, some chairs along the bar, and also some sofas along the windows where people had laptops and working or just hanging out! As for the brunch, I found the menu a bit lacking. There isn’t much of a selection — a few egg dishes, a soup & salad section, and some random other items. There isn’t even a sweet section for pancakes or French toast! Personally, I am an egg person, but there were only 4 choices, all of which were quite standard. I settled for the poached eggs on sourdough toast, but asked for smoked salmon instead of black pudding, which they happily obliged. But to be honest, it wasn’t too different than eggs any style on toast, which you could have asked for poached and then added a few items! And the food was exactly what it said it was. It was one slice of toast with two poached eggs and some other toppings. I came away a bit hungry, and I think it would have been perfectly reasonable to order one of the other menu items to go with it, except that I don’t really like soup or salad for brunch. I ordered a ginger juice to finish, which was very good, but note that it is not squeezed fresh — it comes from one of the many bottles that are available at the take away counter, and they even bring the bottle to the table. Funny because it is called«house press.» Anyway, I really like the venue and it’s a beautiful space, but I wouldn’t say that this is a great brunch spot. I get the feel that it’s more of a cool neighborhood hangout venue… and those sofas looked awfully comfy.

Barber & Parlour. Is that all? Nope. Barber & Parlour & Lunchroom & Cinema & Cool Hangout & Nice Lunch & Good Coffee & Cold-pressed juice & Beauty things & Friendly People & Cinema. Oh. I already had Cinema. Well… okay. Whatever. I think I made my point clear. Awesome place!!! Love! It!

Wow! I absolutely loved this place! I discovered it while wandering through Shoreditch, just walking into random Streets. Barber & Parlour is still pretty new but I was surprised it wasnt on Unilocal yet! You can come here to watch a movie at the Electric Cinema, have brunch/coffee, shop, go to the barber, have your nails done or buy some fresh take-away juices. What a cool and fun place. The space is big but still cosy. The staff was friendly, the vibe relaxted and the food and coffee were great. This was my favorite spot on my recent London trip!
