On a cold and sunny January afternoon, many of Richmond’s independent coffee shops were full-to-overflowing. So, we came to Austin’s, with its great location on the Green. I used to come here, on a very regular basis, in one of its previous guises and really loved it, as the Olive Tree with its Greek-themed snacks and coffee. Neither of us were really after anything to eat so we weren’t especially tempted by the snacks on offer, although they looked decent enough without being deeply enticing!(Including flapjacks, cakes and salads). There was a good selection of freshly prepared juices, for the detox-minded but it was a warming cuppa we were after. I was happy to find that they could prepare a cappuccino with soya milk and it didn’t disappoint(although I would have preferred it in a mug, rather than a cup). My friend was happy with her hot chocolate. We warmed-up quickly in the cosy atmosphere and enjoyed the great views across the Green.

Great position on the Green, particularly if you can get an outside seat on a sunny day. Reasonable snacks and coffee. Pleasant service, until I asked for a hotter Latte, but I’d probably go again.
