If you’re based in East London and looking for a salon that will get the job done well, but won’t charge you a fortune — these ladies are tops. Pros: — All over permanent tint(from brown to red): £65(with a little trim thrown in) — Wash, cut, style for short-med hair: approx £35 — Full head of highlights: approx £80−100(based on personal experience) — Zel and Jan are amazing with colour and skilled with the art of helping you grow out that pixie you hate — African hair and European hair are treated equally here — Small town salon vibe — it’s friendly, chatty, and sometimes a little boisterous at the weekends. Reminds me of the salons I went to as a kid in rural Vermont, but with an East London twist. Cons: — No website. Sorry, but you have to ring them up for prices. — No credit cards on Saturdays. You have to bring cash with you and there’s no convenient machines nearby. — No massaging chair or swanky waiting area. This is a bit of a hole in the wall, so nothing fancy. It’s not ugly or uncomfortable, but you’re not going to be blown away by any luxe interiors here. — The coffee is terrible, have a giant cup of tea instead. — You have to drive or take a bus to get there — no easy tube or train access. I know it might not sound like much if you’re used to the very swish London salon scene, but my wallet and my heart love this little gem. And my hair looks pretty damn fine, too. I have to get a lift from my husband to get there, and I have to make sure I take cash out after work Friday, but it’s worth it because I know Zel will do a fantastic job every time and the atmosphere is just so much nicer to me than the slick City salons I’ve been to. **Quick update to note that I don’t recommend them for bleach. If you want bleached hair, check out FEEL Soho on Berwick street. Affinity did a pretty terrible job when I wanted to go bleach blonde because they just don’t have enough experience with it.**
