After being on the road while, it’s inevitable you’ll need to wash your clothes. I found myself in such a predicament upon my arrival in London. At the recommendation of hotel staff, I made my way to A&Z with a stuff sack(an essential travel item) full of dirty laundry. The man behind the counter indicated that they had wash and fold service available. When he had serious difficulty taking down my contact details I began to worry. I self-soothed thinking, «none of your very favorite clothes are in that bag.» When he proceeded to dump out my socks and knickers on the counter for all to see, my cheeks grew hot. He said I could return the next day to pick up my things. The following day I returned at midday. The same man from the day before saw me and then hurried down the stairs. He tipped a basket of laundry in my direction and asked me if the clothes in it were mine. They were, thankfully. Twenty minutes and a couple of apologies later I got my clothes. Upon return to my hotel room I discovered that many of my socks seem somehow singed and were returned to me feeling crisp as though they’d been melted. Everything else seemed to be in decent condition. When you drop off laundry, you want to leave feeling confident that it will be there when you pick it up. With A&Z I had some serious doubts and as such I will not patronize them again. The search for wash and fold in London continues…
