Ogmore Vale Bakery is a small bakery chain dotted around the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend area. This Llantwit Major branch has a small café to the rear, which serves a cracking cup of coffee and a small counter dishing up seasonally themed cakes, loaves of bread and pasties at a very reasonable rate. But I’ve got a small bone to pick with it. Namely it’s Cornish Pasties. I am not Cornish but I regard myself as a bit of an expert. I lived there for three years. I’ve holidayed there for fifteen. I even made a radio documentary about them, where I interviewed leading players in the Cornish Pasty business. Dear Ogmore Vale Bakery, your«Cornish Pasty» is not a Cornish Pasty. Firstly it is top crimped. A proper one is always crimped on the side. You make the common mistake of putting carrot in it(he orangey innards of a proper pasty are pieces of swede not carrot), which I can just about forgive. But the peas… PEAS?! In a pasty purporting to be a Cornish Pasty? This is a heinous crime. Tasted alright though, but that’s beside the point. I’m still shocked.
