i climbed to the top on the day of my 60th birthday, it was very nearly my last day on earth, a great effort by an overweight, unfit and heavy smoker, who nearly died halfway up. but it was worth every step of agony. on reaching the summit, i drank a glass of glenfiddich whiskey, and smoked half a king edward cigar, i have not smoked since, i left the half cigar in a wall of the ruins please feel free to finish it for me. i was 60 on the 01, dec 2011, and will climb again to the top in 2012 on that same day, a non smoker and fitter old man. thanks to my cousin elsie, for the day, we go again to the top in march2012 to celebrate her birthday. good news she as stopped smoking to

The remains of a 13th century rectangular stone castle which stands on top of a very steep hill about 1000 feet above the valley. It’s very worth the climb of to see the wonderful views over the town and the Dee Valley, though I found it a bit of a struggle getting to the top! I was in the area for the International Musical Eisteddfod and it was a lovely experience to be at the top of the grassy hill with snatches of song drifting up from the marquee way down in the valley below. It’s free to visit and you’ll need to park by the roadside. Good footwear is recommended!
