Situated beneath the Pistachio Bar at the Sefton Park end of Lark Lane, Vinyl is a strange place that doesn’t get busy until very late on in the evening, this is Lark Lanes saviour to local bands as it can be hired by local promoters to showcase new and upcoming artists from around the city. They have a great sound system and a bar packed with a huge selection of bottled and draught beers! It’s a cracking little venue and not what you expect on Lark Lane or from looking at the venue from the outside! They offer 10% of their takings to promoters who rent this venue, having rented a few venues in the city centre for the purpose of gigs, I would say that this is an excellent rate and this place would be perfect if it moved into the heart of Liverpool. Gay friends have told me that the lesbian nights here are very popular within Liverpool’s gay community!

You look at Lark Lane, you think it’s fairly quiet, suburban, quite Chorlton-esque if you’re familiar with Manchester. But those who know Chorlton know that its quiet, suburban ambience doesn’t stop it having some of the most kicking bars in the city, and the same goes for Vinyl right here. In an unassuming and cute little white building adjacent to Pistachio Restaurant, part of the same premises, you descend into a basement bar that’s really impressive. Do you regularly procrastinate and take forever making decisions regarding drinks? No? Well prepare to feel that way imminently, because Vinyl has more than twenty different bottled ciders and beers to choose from. As well as having a night out there it’s a fab spot to watch sport with its big screen and plasma TVs dotted about the place and has special offers for match days, as well as its chilled out, cosy comfy environment. The music is lovely and the free wi-fi means you can even get some work done while you’re down there. It’s available to hire too and makes a great little party venue, plus Pistachio would provide buffets for the occasion. Live bands play Sundays and Thursdays and you can organise for your own band to play there — they’ll even give you 10% of the night’s taking too. Their girls’ night, Genesis, is well-renowned in Liverpool’s lesbian community and takes place on the last Sunday of every month, involving live entertainment. There’s just about something for everyone here, and it’s very reasonably priced too! Vinyl hasn’t gone out of fashion after all…

Lark Lane’s late night venue — well 12 isn’t too bad for a school night out in the suburbs — is situated below Pistachio bar at the park end of the Lane. But Vinyl’s biggest contribution to the Lark Lane pub scene is acting as the only live music venue along here and regularly has young bands playing original stuff as well as older pub rockers doing a very good standard of covers. It’s the regular jazz sessions, however, that draw a regular crowd here every Thursday with a very good jazz band playing a residency. Vinyl advertises itself for football games and is currently offering itself for the World Cup but it’s not really the type of place to enjoy the footy, its best enjoyed for a late night drinks and music.

.As part of a group of 20, a fantastic night was had by everyone. Food was perfect, as a party we must have ordered nearly every item on the menu with not one person disappointed with their choice. The service was exceptional, both efficient and friendly. After our meal some of us continued drinking in the restaurant whilst others went downstairs to the basement bar Vinyl. Everyone agreed that it was a truly great night out so pay a visit.
