Venus in Furs

Calling all Velvet Underground fans…
Wait, Venus in Furs isn’t a record shop named after the band’s seminal song! Nor is it a sex club or S&M den named after Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s classic, lengthy novel! It’s actually a clothes boutique that specialises in fab handpicked vintage clothes, shoes and accessories for women and men.
The day I visited there seemed to be an ample supply of grey and black dresses, skirts, trousers, cardigans, coats, shoes and handbags from the 1940s onwards. So, I guess Venus in Furs might actually appeal to Velvet Underground and masochists as much as vintage fashionistas!

What a creative shop name. Anyone who has a cool name for their shop deserves a visit, even if you don’t like what they sell. Who wouldn’t want to be a «Venus in furs» even if you don’t wear fur?!
This independent boutique shop is located inside Grand Central on Renshaw Street. They sell handmade dresses and vintage dresses in excellent condition. Everything is bright, clean, and well cared for. The owner also does clothing alterations and makes unique, fashionable headdresses. (Interestingly, I only spotted one or two fur items.)
Dresses tend to be very feminine, flowery, long, and flowing. If you like 60’s and 70’s styles, hippy and flower child clothing, you will probably find something here that you really want to take home. I know I’m going back when (if ever) I can again justify spending some money on yours truly.
The shop also offers a few antiques and collectables, like vintage books, knickknacks, an old typewriter, etc.
