Swiftness? With a drink? Ugh. In an ideal world of course the phrase ‘swift drink’ would apply solely to a quick pint in a hearth-warmed tavern before you pop out to witness some massively important historical event, like a Churchill speech or the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The epic nature of the occasion provides the reason for the urgency. Back in the stained grimness of the real world, ‘swift drink’ seems beyond naff. Swiftness here either makes you think of tramps furtively buying booze or guffawing idiots downing shots. I’ve been drunk after leaving clubs in my life(yes, really!), but I’ve never been drunk enough to purchase yet more booze from this sordid Duke Street off-license. It always looks like an alcoholic hostage swap is going on inside.

Swift Drinks on Duke Street prides itself on its super late opening times to collect alcohol after running out or on a bit of a craving following a long night in town. The pay window can seem a bit intimidating down a dark alley way but I’m sure that it is just for the attendants protection more than anything else! The drinks are reasonably priced, if not hiked up a bit for the exclusivity of after dark purchases, all in all, if you can get to Tesco’s/Asda earlier on in the day to stock up, you’d be better off — but this offers the perfect all round alternative.

Swift Drinks is an absolute lifesaver for those that refuse to stop drinking when the clubs in town close and boot everyone to the streets! It’s pretty much an all night off licence, fashioned a little bit like an Australian bottle shop! Keep your wits about you when you buy from here though as sometimes weird characters hang around this place in the middle of the night. A friend of mine almost got mugged walking away from this place with a crate of beer; luckily he managed to get to a black cab in good time! This place sells beers, cigarettes, wines, and spirits throughout the night and is very reasonable priced considering! They also sell condoms, if you’re caught short on the way home from a club with someone you’ve picked up! They sell loads of snacks too! Crisps, chocolate, sweets etc! Great for those with the munchies in the middle if the night! Your can get a can of Fosters for £1.10, and I think this is the cheapest beer they sell. Just look out for pissed people after a kick off in this area late at night!

What an unsurprisingly bitter, bitter person who sits in a glass box(very David Blaine with the 24 hour service) waiting for drunkards to come demanding«more booze!» mainly for those who have regressed to Cave man form involving lots of grunting and pointing at cheap bottles of wine/vinegar, and vodkat etc. However, it definitely does the trick and this hovel is the mystical bestower of gifts onto the passing trade of the pissed public(don’t dare trying to leave without paying, you may be turned to dust by the wizard on the other side — who I half expect to go crazy and cock a rifle at the next antsy customer). Cheap bottles, cheap service, necessary booze. Continue the madness and party til the next pm!(Do it for the man in the box!)

As long as you don’t mind queuing with a tramp for what you imagine is some much needed booze at 3am — and lets face it if you’re getting more booze at this time then one more tramp is going to bother you — then this is the place for you. Swift Drinks offers 24 hr booze supply for those who just don’t know when enough is enough and God bless them for it. The saviour of many a Saturday night/Sunday Morning when town just isn’t enough for a good time! What can I say there is often a grizzled, goblin-like man in a glass booth despatching drink and fags to people with a menacing, bitter quality because, well they’re trapped behind a glass booth and you’re all partying til the early hours.
