Well… This place is certainly an experience. Decent music but taking a bunch of straight guys there is probably not recommended. I would avoid the tequila shots too… They honestly were a lot more like gasoline or something… nasty! Good music though, and a lot of fun!

No self-respecting man should ever dosey doe, but the second any DJ, in this case a six-foot transvestite in a Myra Hindley wig, puts on Cotton Eye Joe, there’s no stopping you. Saying that though, it’s been a long while since I was self-respecting in any way. I haven’t checked, but I think Pink may just be a gay club. It’s also remarkably small, something that differentiates it to the other smoky aircraft hangars of clubs that are scattered around the area. Declining the usual tuneless pulsing music in favour of naff classics that everybody knows the words to improve Pink no end. After all it’s a common fact that everybody, from Julian Clary to Lee Marvin, knows the words to Reach For the Stars. If they say they don’t, they’re lying.

Hey, why the focus on Pink. I heard Purple’s also a colour the gay contingent holds close to its hearts, although calling a club Purple just sounds pretty rubbish at the end of the day. Pink it is then. I wonder if Pink herself will ever have that hilarious moment of realising that an establishment is your namesake, like our friend Leo did with both Leo’s Fish Bar and Leo’s Italian Restaurant, or when I saw the Offspring at a festival and Dexter pointed to a food stand named ‘Noodles’ and said to the guitarist, nicknamed Noodles, ‘Hey Noodles! They named a bar after ya!’ *Sigh* Sorry, high school flashback… I was obsessed with that band as a teen. Moving on, Pink’s as bright, brash and brilliant as you’d expect. It’s even got the drama. It was temporarily closed down in October 2009 because of ’40 separate incidents’, mostly involving violence, ladies collapsing in doorways after taking ecstasy, oh dear oh dear. Thankfully it was a few bad eggs who shouldn’t have been there in the first place — it’s a shame Pink and nearby gay clubs are having to up their security but you can’t risk the homophobes getting in on the act and doing something stupid. Thankfully now the vibe is relaxed and friendly, and it’s a particularly popular spot with young gay and lesbian couples as well as being warmly welcoming to straight customers too who love the vibe and the entertainment which comes in the form of drag, disco, all the usuals. You’ll find hen nights aplenty taking place in here and it’s near a lot of other high profile clubs in the gay quarter so it’s great to flit between a few. Very popular and busy, and certainly high profile!
