This was absolutely horrible. Their brine isn’t doing them any favors, as the chicken isn’t very juicy. Furthermore it is extremely bland. I understand that the UK has policies around salt use, but this is ridiculously bad. The only thing that didn’t make me want to gag were the chips. Can’t say the same for the pulled chicken macaroni & cheese. Please avoid this place at all costs. Note: I’m an American so my palate may be different. Nonetheless, we’re pretty well known for delicious fried chicken.

My absolute favourite food is Fried Chicken, and hands down Pattersons makes the best fried chicken I have had in Liverpool, and more so anywhere I’ve had it over the world. Pattersons is a dinky little find down Gradwell Street, but if you follow your nose you can honestly follow the smell of the chicken to the restaurant. Once you’re in the restaurant it has capacity for around 30 people in it’s comfy yet stylish décor. You need to take a seat and then once you’ve picked what you’re eating, go to the bar and order it and they’ll bring it over to the table when it is ready. The few times I’ve been there has always been at least two on the bar so it is always fine getting your drink or food order in. Now I can only speak for the fried chicken bucket, burger, chips and sauces as those are all I’ve tried. The fried chicken is prepared as it should be, brined for 24 hours with spices, then marinated in buttermilk, then coated in their special mix of polenta, spices and chick pea flour. It is then fried to absolute perfection. Hands down the tenderness, juiciness and flavour of this chicken is unmatched and I could not recommend it more, if you love fried chicken go here and try it. Also the chicken is boneless which can be a concern for some people. The burgers are either made from their fried chicken, plain grilled chicken breast or you can get a beef burger for those who dislike chicken. The burgers are great, not as great as some others in Liverpool, but certainly they are worth giving a go. They do also do salads, wraps, and wings. I really would like to try the wings next time I go as they do look delicious. Now the chips are also on par with the chicken in my opinion. They are fried just right and you can either get a medium portion, a large portion or a super large portion, you can either get them as normal potato fries, sweet potato fries or curly fries and all are as nice as the other. If you get these I just recommend you get them all mixed into one super fries basket of deliciousness. Now with any great fried chicken you need a great variety of quality sauces and they really do, they do the usual selection of gravy, bbq, mayonnaise all in various varieties and all are top notch quality and taste. I’d recommend the chipotle mayo if you were going to try a sauce. The gravy is a tad expensive for what is essentially gravy granules but if you love gravy go ahead. The bar is well stocked with a variety of drinks. They even have three ales that they brew themselves which are worth a shot at trying. And they import the delicious PBR cans from the USA. They also do a great selection of cocktails which are fairly priced and also quite delicious, they have the nice cocktail ratio of enough alcohol but also enough taste, not watery like some other bars. The music in the restaurant may be a negative for some people, with its hip hop techno mix but I personally have no objection to this. Overall I could not recommend this place enough, the staff are always friendly and welcoming, the place is always clean and warm. The fried chicken(which lets be honest is what you’re coming here for) is hands down the greatest you can find. Go here, go here now, and witness something beautiful.

The famous and amazing Pattersons, well that’s what I expected. Sadly, not what I experienced. Décor looks good, a bit mixed and mashed but think that’s the idea of it. First stop was the bar, with only 1 person serving on a weekday early evening I did have to wait a while to be served but when I was it was with a friendly approach. Ordered the food but 10 minutes after ordering I was approached by a nervous member of staff to tell me they had no sweet potato fries left. Shortly after, with alternative fries mine and my partners meals arrived! However, they had forgotton my partners fries altogether and when I reminded them they brought the wrong type of fries out… It wasn’t even that busy in there. Felt let down due to the buzz of the place and the reputation I have heard. Chicken was not amazing but not bad, and i’m a massive fried chicken lover. Probably wont be returning but would eat their food again no problems.
