Now I was a John Moore’s student for three years. If you’re from Liverpool you’ll know that there’s an ongoing rivalry between LJMU students and University of Liverpool students. This is simply because Liverpool University is the older, red brick institution and their students believe that they do things better there. Well one thing’s for sure, they sure have a much better student union. In fact, I spent far more time here than I ever did at the crappy LJMU union. The Liverpool union is a great, cheap, friendly place for socializing! They have a number of bars selling cheap gigs and host national and international gigs all the time, bringing big name bands to the city. they have amazing student nights, unlike LJMU, and there seems to be a great atmosphere whenever you drink in here!~ A couple of years ago we went to a rock karaōke night here, it was one of the best nights out we’d had in Liverpool! Well done Liverpool Uni Student Union team!

For anyone familair with student and university life, the Guild is the hub of student life — well for first years until everyone ventures to better pubs further a field. For those not involved with Liverpool Uni, the LGoS is a good gig venue which hosts many bands throughout the year — term time of course is the main period, they’re not going to put on gigs for just anyone, but they do host some of the Summer Pops gigs which are worth keeping an eye out for — And over the years there have been some damn fine line ups here. The website bangs on about worthy events that the students should get involved with or good causes for them to stir up interest in but the ggreat thing about not being a student is that you can simply see what is coming up without all the political palaver!

The Liverpool student union is an excellent part of the university which does a good job of representing its excellence as an institute of higher education. The union has it all, there really is something for everyone and I think my favourite discovery was the barber shop which is tucked away downstairs by the lads loos and actually does a pretty good job. They have a café, a bar, a restaurant and even monetary advice there is very little more you could ask for from a union. I have visited other unions around the country at other universities and although this may be a touch of bias I have to say that I don’t believe that most of them stack up against Liverpool Uni. The Union also attracts top music acts and generally knows how to hold a good party at pretty decent prices as well, I’ve got no complaints about this place and if you’re a student in Liverpool you will know exactly what I mean.

The Liverpool Guild of Students is the students union for students studying at The University of Liverpool. The centre is a hub for students to congregate, eat, book tickets for gigs and take those dreaded exams! There is a decent food court where you can hang out with friends. A variety of cafes, stationery & gift shops that surround you makes it an easy meeting place too. One of the most popular places at the Guild is The Base — this is where you are able to purchase tickets for various events that usually take place at the Guild itself. Also, if you’re interested in becoming a member of a student scoiety, this is the place to sign up. If you’re a fresher, be sure not to miss out on the freebies at the events fair, which takes place before the start of Autumn term!

Oh, friendly Guild! This is definitely the ‘it’ place to meet up with friends at lunch-time during the University term. Whether you want a sandwich, coffee, magazine, newspaper(at a handy discounted price), curly fries. my my there’s so much on offer here it’s impossible to choose! Combine that with comfy seating(although get there early if you want the best area to sit in) and great toilet facilities, and you have everything a student needs. Even if you’re after passport photos or housing advice, this Guild has it all. At night-time there’s a variety of gigs and shows on offer, but make sure you get your tickets early as they often sell out. A great venue(although there are some seriously cheesy fresher events on during September, please avoid these at all cost, do not encourage such debauchery).

In term-time LGoS is buzzing with life, it’s actually the biggest Guild in Europe(not that you’d know unless you wandered the labrinth of corridors and rooms which stretch out below ground level!) Freshers week, the guild holds all the fresher events like School Disco, Roller Disco, Fun fair, and general discount drinking nights with cheesy/dance music. It is also host to many live gigs some cheesy(Venga boys!) and mainly up and coming popular artists. The Saro Wiwa bar is great for lunch(curly fries!) and the pub quiz in an evening is great fun with free sausage and chips thrown in for good measure. Also, check the mario kart that’s permanently rigged up… great for a bit of healthy competition! You can get all the information you need and purchase tickets for all the LGoS events from The Base and they have a shop in there that sells the Uni of Liverpool hoodies, lunchables and stationary.
