I’m not really into the vintage look myself, I get it but I can’t work it, I tend to just look like I’m dressed for decorating or going to fancy dress. However, I do like to browse the rails and window shop, and I have to say Flashback has never really impressed me; the stuff seems outdated rather than vintage i. e it’s not so old fashioned that’s it’s fashionable it’s just old, and actually quite ugly; I’ve never seen anything eye catching in here, not for the right reasons anyway. Vintage lovers out there may of course find a piece they like, perhaps my eye is not trained to appreciate the accoutrements of vintage dressing. The shop itself is cramped, and I don’t think it’s a place designed for pleasant browsing, it’s also very expensive.

The sign in the window promised men’s fashions upstairs but unfortunatley as I got to the stairs a rope blocked the entrance preventing me from scoping out what promised to be a good addition to this expanding store. Like many of the other small vintage and original clothing stores that started out in the independent parts of the city’s shopping districts like Grand Central, Flashback’s success has meant it has expanded into its own store here on white chapel forming a nice alternative along with Pop opposite Met Quarter. Since I was inside I paused to have a little look at the lady’s clothing and found that I am easily confused by women’s vintage gear. I know that they are all original but when there all together they just meld into one big patterned mess. But if you have the time to sift through the enormous amount of original and vintage wear there are lots of bargains and unique items.

So if you aren’t drawn in by the great name of this store, you should be by its luxurious window dressings and prime vintage offerings. Flashback Boutique is a small shop with an upmarket range of items, if you’re looking for a unique vintage dress for an event then this is the place to go(so much sparkle and glamour). Their vintage is a little expensive, but worth the price as it’s definitely well cared for and one-of-a-kind. The Boutique also offers great handbags(my favourite), accessories and shoes. The little store caters for men as well as women with a selection of jeans, shirts and jackets. There’s deifnitely a little something for everyone in this Boutique.

Patterned dresses Pleated dresses Tunic dresses Lace dresses Sequinned dresses Silk dresses Chiffon dresses Shift dresses Wrap-around dresses Geometric print dresses Puffball dresses & Prom dresses Although Flashback Boutique stocks a vast range of men and womens vintage clothing, shoes and accessories, the shop’s wow factor is their staggering range of dresses. Spread across a series of racks, they include colourful day dresses, evening dresses, cocktail dresses, ball gown dresses and couture dresses. Prices range from £20 — £150 and there’s a small selection of matching vintage shoes and handbags. It’ll probably be gone by tomorrow but when I popped in earlier, they had a stunning, black Ossie Clark maxi dress with bell sleeves in immaculate condition.

Liverpool will soon have a vintage clothing alley to match Manchester’s Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter, in fact experts predict that by 2048 they will outnumber outstrip the city’s population by a ratio of 3:1. At the moment though hipsters will just have to cope with just the few dotted around Richmond Street. Despite the ugly signage Flashback is a really great little shop selling a selective range of vintage and vintage style items from brands like Fila, Lacoste and Wrangler. From paisley dresses and court shoes for the girls and for the boys anything from cowboy shirts to lurid shellsuit jackets(hardly going to dispel any scouser myths there). It is a little bit overpriced honestly but the stuff here is quality. They also sell a lot of impressive tank-tops. As nice as these are, I don’t know who buys them. I’ve yet to see anyone actually rocking the tank-top look.
