Filter & Fox

Awesome tiny bar tucked away on a side street. You really have to know about this place to find it! We popped in on a Saturday night looking for a delicious cocktail. And they didn’t disappoint! My husband had a rum version of a manhatten and said it was one of the best drinks he’s ever had. I had a lovely large pour of a red wine and was happy as a clam. Love the quiet, dark vibe with the twinkle lights.

A small intimate coffee shop which has a great buzz to it. Our order was taken quickly with our cappuccinos being delivered to the table almost immediately. Very impressed with the service. Grilled cheese sandwich was simply divine. This coffee shop is definitely on my return to list.

My most recent trip to Liverpool was a work related visit. This meant I required access to quick wi-​fi, some hot drinks, and no pressure to drink up and move on. It’s at this point I realised that Liverpool is lacking in something Manchester is (in my personal opinion) becoming saturated with — coffee shops which actually cater predominantly to the freelance/​working crowd during the day.
Despite walking past on a number of occasions, I only today actually entered Filter & Fox and decided to hunker down with my laptop. It’s a small space but well set out, with a number of tables and a lovely tiled bar. The menu is printed each month due to seasonal variety and already laid out on the table for you.
Visiting in the mid-​morning, I wasn’t the only person setting up shop — it must have looked quite comical with four people lined up, facing the same way, each furiously typing on their computers. The free wi-​fi was quick to connect once I’ve received the password (vineandgrind) and I was good to go.
I ordered a pot of tea and some of the homemade granola with yoghurt and seasonal berries. The tea is served on a tray with a glass of water — the same way many ‘new’ coffees are served — which was quite nice as there felt like less of a divide between coffee and tea drinkers. A see through teapot meant I could keep a close eye on the strength of my drink, and the speckled crockery is a new personal favourite.
The granola was very tasty, served with a small pot of honey and some pomegranate and grapes on the side. It was a perfect morning portion and I enjoyed the addition of blueberries, which added a slightly tartness to cut through the natural yoghurt.
Service was very friendly and has the feeling of knowing everyone, but in a good way. There were plenty of regulars coming through the door but everyone was treated equally.
I’m looking forward to a future visit for some of the small plates and bar snacks, including a cheese board and grilled halloumi with hummus.
