Carnarvon Castle is a small pub located centrally within the city and to be perfectly honest the location is probably the best thing about it. After that there is not too much to impress here as it is a fairly average pub much like the stereotypical local. Unlike the small village local pubs this place lacks character and you are more likely to find drunken fools in here rather than interesting characters. The beer isn’t great here and neither are the prices so there’s no joy to be had in that region. Overall this pub has very little offer to the people of Liverpool unless you are already a regular here and have grown accustomed to its limited charms.

From the outside, the Carnarvon Castle looks like a miniature version of Concert Square’s many scumbag zoos. Interior-wise, it looks more like the kind of place where Stonewall Jackson would arm wrestle with Lincoln. With its wooden gloominess and oddly cheerless maritime photographs, you wouldn’t expect this pub to be situated so close to the thumping, grinning supernova-bright megastores but it is, and that’s one of its redeeming features. It feels almost stranded amongst the metropolis of shops but is a great place to duck into for a pint if you’re bored of looking at things you can’t afford.
