Alexander’s is another place that comes highly recommended from my friends in the nearby Merchants Taylor’s School(mostly girls, I must admit… it’s a hard life). Being located just over the road from the school, it obviously makes a killing of a lunch time, with other local schools being only around the corner as well, and you can see why it’s so popular. Offering a range of bread for your sandwich as well as a variety of freshly made fillings, Alexander’s excels at the ancient art of putting two pieces of bread together and putting something in the middle. The fillings available are hot or cold depending on your order and represent a good alternative to the local chippies when it comes to lunch. They also offer a range of sweets, crisps and drinks to accompany your sandwich and they have started doing various flavoured milkshakes(the Skittles one is particularly fruity and flavoursome), meaning Alexander’s provides a great place to grab a quick bite on the run or to eat in.

Alexanders is amazing, it kept me, my friends and most of the students from the surrounding schools nourished throughout Sixth Form(and school, if you were a dare devil and left the school grounds) It provided a much healthier alternative in much cleaner, fresher environment to the steamed up chippy opposite. There is a fantastic range of hot and cold sandwiches: baguettes, baps, wraps, paninis, all made fresh to order with all your desired toppings and dressings, jacket potatos and soup is also served and some cold drinks and snacks available. There is limited seating so most people take out. Besides the great food the staff are key to the success of this little place; they’re so friendly, remembering their regulars and welcoming newcomers. According to the 2009 hygiene ratings, Alexanders scored just one star, I have no idea why, or how these scores are calculated; Alexanders gets five stars from me!
