From memory, there’s been a chip shop located here for decades — I definitely remember walks round Hollingworth Lake in childhood and treats of cones of chips afterwards. A traditional chippy, nothing particularly over-and-above your typical takeaway, but the fact it’s near the lakeside means if it’s dry outside you can find a bench, tuck in and try and stop the seagulls from dive-bombing you whilst watching the geese and ducks gather for a potential fatty snack. Disclaimer: I don’t feed chips to waterfowl. Portion sizes are HUGE mind you, even a ‘small chips’ with fish was presented in a large container filled to bursting. Request some sachets of sauce as well as the chips can be a tad bland without it.

Visited this establishment after reading good reviews, sat down and ordered the cod fish special from the menu. When the food arrived the Chips looked freshly cooked, they were edible but the texture was like 99.9% of all the usual chippie chips you find, the fish was overcooked and rubbery with thick dark stodgy batter, and the mushy peas were luke warm with not much flavour. If you are a connoisseur of fish and chips, this is definitely not the place to visit, whatever the reviews say!

This is a very popular fish & chip shop, run by a local business-man. It is situated right next to Hollingworth Lake Country Park — therefore, parking can be difficult at times. There is the usual selection of ‘CHIPPY’ style food –but the fish is a real recommendation, as it is bought in regularly and always tastes really fresh. There is also, the facility to ‘dine-in’, although this obviously comes with an added price. Facilities are kept clean. Many people opt for a leisurely walk around ‘The Lake’ first, then choose to buy their food as take-away, and go and sit by the Lake & enjoy it in the fresh air. …However, word of warning: watch out for all the ducks & geese — who will be keen to have a share! If you are not full after, then you can also grab an ice-cream from the Parlour right next door to the fish & chip shop.
