I’d been meaning to come here for ages but the allure of the Red Lion /Leyton Technical were just too great, but it’s worth checking out as it has its own vibe and is making a huge effort, and on a Sunday afternoon it’s fairy busy so it’s definitely doing something right! The crowd is nice and mixed, it actually feels a bit like you’re in someone’s living room, cosy and welcoming. There’s a lot going on here, today we have a cake /nic nac sale, loud piped music, sports on TV and a pizza bar all in different parts of actually quite a small pub! There’s also signs for a comedy night, and there’s a cocktail list on the wall along with all your usual pub drinks. There’s a little courtyard out back which catches the sun, it doesn’t feel like a Sunday aftetnoon in here — more the vibe and energy of early Friday night!

This is technically the closest pub to my house and I have only ever been in there once before and only very briefly! But that was my mistake, this pub still has that old school vibe and a local crowd that stops it being too hipster but there is a real effort by the landlady to make this place fun and the range of events/nights swings from one end of the spectrum to the other, with toddlers and tea to a drag cabaret on every Sunday! The bar is standard and they have pop up chefs on the premises for stints throughout the week. We had the Muga pizzas which are cooked in a proper pizza oven in the garden and are thin, delicious, smothered in toppings and are only £8 Max! Seriously good stuff! So the crux is this, the place has the makings of something excellent but needs a bit more atmosphere so I say to all you leytoners/leytonstoners, check it out and I’ll see you at quiz all over your face!
