A charming small local pub, with an extended area for live bands. They have a good selection of beer, they known for their regular live music on a Friday and Saturday night.

Based on my one visit so far, this seems like a nice neighborhood pub. I went on a Tuesday night, and there were about six people, all obviously regulars, drinking at the bar. Friendly, mellow atmosphere. Pleasant noise level, not too loud to have a good conversation. Lots of announcements of community events posted on the walls. The bar has a large back room that apparently is set up for live music(and has lots of pictures of performers on the wall), but that wasn’t happening when I was there. They only had one beer on cask(they had a number on tap), but it was unusually flavorful, so I was happy(I’m used to U.S. West Coast IPAs, which tend to pack a lot more punch than what I’ve been drinking in England).

For picking a random pub to listen to some of the music which was being put on as part of the Leith Gala, I couldn’t have picked a better place than The Village. Thank you bar staff for not hating the cheapest table ever with one non-drinker on tap water, and 2 on fresh orange, although some more smiles would have been nice — some seemed to be quite bitter with their lot! Otherwise, the music(the music of folk that is, and it seems from the olé interwebs that this is seems to be a folk-music driven pub) was excellent — we did pay our fiver to listen and watch from the back area, but found it much more amenable to sit and chill in the front bar to catch up with an old friend. Definitely the kinda pub I would frequent if I lived in the area. Not sure if it does food. Definitely recommended!

This is a great wee pub, my local! Staff are friendly, so are the customers, but you can usually call them to heel(It is a dog friendly bar ;o)) There’s a main bar where you will find the gents’ toilets and a lounge bar where you will find the ladies’ — having just symbols is too much for me and I needed to be shouted at a few times! The bar is open 12noon to 1am every day and the back room houses art exhibits, changed every six weeks. It also has squashy couches and a couple of arm chairs. Great for sitting with the paper for a quiet half hour or so. The Leith Folk Club meet in the back room every Tuesday, Monsmeg Dancers every Monday and there’s now a resident DJ every second Friday night, Jon Pleased Wimmin. The back room can also be hired out for any event. It’s great for parties as you can bring your own food and music and decorate to your heart’s content, I think it holds about 60 folk. It’s an over 21s bar though, so no little folk and it’s still a 1am close, which means you could go clubbing after!

Living the other side of town, I’ve only visited the Village once for the Leith Folk Club. THis is a lovely little pub, consisting of a small bar area and then a larger performance space to the side, with a small bar(an extension of the main one). The décor is intriguing to say the least and slightly quirky — there are loads of really interesting paintings all over the walls. The staff were very friendly and the prices reasonable, and the atmosphere at the Folk Club was friendly and informal. There are sets of chairs round tables and even two comfy-looking armchairs, making it a great space for a folky gig. Presumably the venue holds gigs for other musical genres and as it’s not terribly large(capacity around 50 – 100 max, I’d say) it would be a great place to showcase new, local talent. A good find.

Funky interior, decent music, very pleasant staff and customers and, bizarrely, Cumbrian dancing being practiced in the back bar. A delightful find.

The Village is a great little bar and performance space, with high ceilings and slate covered, candle-lit interior. The performance space seats between 40 and 50, and has been known to take up to 80 people standing. Home to the Leith Folk Club and a primary venue for the Leith Festival, it has hosted some of the biggest names in folk and world music. Encouraging an intimate and relaxed environment, it is one of the best places to go for a chilled evening with live music, a beer and some friends.
