This used to be one of the best pubs in Leicester, albeit in the 70s and 80s, the Landlord had a serious issues as did the«dinner ladies» with Indian clientele. They would I remember if asked place more meat or an extra sausage to white patrons however were non compliant to Indians patron although they said they would pay extra for the item, In an area which dynamic has changed, and whose clientele is noely nearly almost Indian, Sikhs and Hindus, and where the Muslims, have made strong representations to the Police and local authorities going to the point of reporting number places to the Police about alleged drink driving and weighing to stop the business, however the drivers who were just designated drivers and did not partake in the consumption of alcohol. In one respect I Have to throw my hat of for standing up to Muslim threats of closing the place down, and to the previous owners treatment to Indian people however it really suffers from poor beer and and trying to survive in and area with 99% Muslim people who want it closed down and converted to a Mosque. Some Muslim in fairness do frequent the place and consume their fair share of Whisky however I think the odds a re stacked against its long term survival. To put it into perspective John Lamb the butcher closed his shop due to death threats for selling non halal food, and the many local place will not sell bacon sausages or even bacon flavour crisps due to the Muslims complaining and issuing death threats upon them for doing so!
