Really good food with a twist — especially the fish and chips! And had a really good wine and craft beer with hints of dark chocolate.

Veritas ended up playing host to Unilocal Board Games night after a load of rappers invaded Nation of Shopkeepers. But it was a good chance to try somewhere new, and I’m instantly a fan. It was bigger than I expected on the inside, and everything was lovely and clean, and there was something of a homely feeling to it. Kind of! I liked it anyway, and the sight of various bits of food and hampers and things on one side of the bar was a nice touch that, even though I didn’t get any and might never, made me like it that bit more. There was a good selection of drinks too. They had things like Warsteiner and Kaltenberg which I’ve seen before but are always nice for a little change. But they had a surprising amount of different things on tap, as well as a good selection of bottles and spirits behind the bar. Also, it proved a good venue for board gaming action! So good stuff all round really, but I think I need to visit at the weekend to see how it stands up then.

Just had a quick pint here as it was the meeting place before we moved on to The Victoria Hotel. Liked the place. The bar staff were really friendly. I shall have to return and give it a proper review.

Veritas, apart from it’s location, is probably my second favourite pub in Leeds. Not for the ambiance, which is often lacking, and not for the interior which could almost be a Lloyds, but for the eats and drinks that are on offer. With probably the best ‘always on’ cider selection in town(as opposed to those places that have special ciders for a month or so) an apple lover like myself is in his element here — Thatchers, Westons, and a number of other Worldly none Bulmers/Magners variants exist to wrap your tastebuds around. From a food perspective, the third best burger I’ve ever had in Leeds was served up to me over lunch in here — juicy, meaty, tasty, perfectly seasoned — and I’ve enjoyed the Sunday lunch here on a number of occasions, and it’s always been good value and fair or more in quality. If the Adelphi burned down tomorrow, and Veritas was able to be lifted high in the air and transferred across town, this might be my new local. Oh, and if they re-decorated too.

I like this place. It’s the sort of place I could take my mum haha! The clientele are decent, not too yuppie and the prices, while a bit more expensive than some, you do get a quality drink. I couldn’t drink in here too often though. Bit pricey for me and also because of the price abd environment the people that tend to go in are a bit more mature than in other bars nearby. Not many students in here at all! I could imagine a Leeds University lecturer drinking here. It’s not too trendy, for the kids and try hard like Nation of Shopkeepers, it’s calm, chilled out and it’s a good real ale place but not too old man and a beer belly fest like some are. There are lots of great local ales and foreign(mainly European) ales on offer. You wouldn’t think that this place would have such a variety of them. Downers are that there isn’t any music(some jazz would sound great in here), place is a bit pricey, coming from a poor northern mining town the clientele can be a bit posho at times(the sort of posh hippies, liberals and art students you’d see with a Guardian, vegan muffin and mac), walking in the place is a bit intimidating for the first time as you don’t know what to expect, but the place is always welcoming. Was pretty nice chilling in here. The staff are nice enough. I haven’t tried the food so can’t say anything about that. Looked very nice though.

I probably cycled past Veritas every day for two years and sure it looked good on the outside but maybe not the kind of pub with real ales that i want. it will probably serve carlsberg and tetley and that’s it! Wrong! Now had i known it was a market town tavern it wouldn’t have taken me two years to pop in here! you know your guaranteed good beers and 1/3pint tasters with market town taverns and that’s exactly what we got.

A Friday night in this lovely pub is quite a busy affair. Friendly staff, 1⁄3 ale tasters, buzzing conversation. I would definitely try this place again. La chouffe was gorgeous!

Not only is this place absolutely gorgeous, and delightful to visit for a few bevvies, but the deli counter is a wonder. We popped in here before a concert at the Town Hall, seeking out something quick to sate the hunger, before finding somewhere to dine proper post-gig. After a bit of a search, we decided to grab something here, and perused the range of deli platters they have. My company was vegetarian, which is no bother for me, so we opted for the veggie plate as it had cheese on it too.(I do love a bit of cheese.) The last thing I expected was to taste the most deliciously fresh platter I’ve ever had in Leeds. I can’t even begin to tell you how tasty the sun dried tomatoes and olives were. The houmous, freshly made, was particularly flavoursome, the cheese pieces were delectable, the salad was amazingly dressed in a mustard vinaigrette, and the quiche, that accompanied the little dishes, was divine. Every mouthful was fantastic, and I almost regretted not staying here for two more of the same and sacking off the gig. Truly, it was delicious. The chap who served us was great in advising on time(we were cutting it fine) and the ambience, as ever, was perfectly relaxed. With plenty of happy faces, a brilliant selection of ales, delicious bites and wonderful staff, this has to be a top stop off in Leeds. I will be back for more eats! **Extra note — popped in on the Unilocal ale trail, and they’ve some lovely beers. The Fernandez Brewery Tap Vanilla Porter is extra special. Even on a busy night the staff were grand and the vibe was lovely — in spite of the snow!

Decent selection of beers. Don’t bother with the food, unless you have a spare lifetime to wait. Have been there twice and both times the delay was interminable — last time there was a 35 minute wait for starters, on a day when the pub was quiet.

I have always liked this place. Been going for lunch here many a month with friends. more recently it became a drinking spot after work too and today it became somewhere to go with my mum for cake and coffee/tea. It works for everyone of these things so gets a big thumbs up from me. Try the food, the wine, the cake and if you like beer I hear that’s good too… I will keep going here even if I should cut back on going out: P It’s a great place to just hang around in so rarely go in lunch breaks but have met ppl here for them to be back at work so Im sure it can be done.

Food ok but pretentious attempts at traditional dishes. Ale very disappointing and staff seem to have no knowledge of how to keep beer. It doesn’t matter how many pumps you have if your staff don’t know their way around a cask cellar.

A market town tavern that is tucked away behind town hall. They also have plenty I’d cask ales lines and a lil deli if you fancy something fresh but we came here for the beer. They had lots of brewery’s on there cask lines which is almost a plus. They had York, Leeds, black sheep, iikley, Timothy Taylor, and a couple of more to come. The place has a very laid back feel and your not going to be shouting at your friends to get your point across. It’s very relaxing and they have a full menu as well. We all had halves of the russian imperial stout that black sheep has just shipped out it’s a hefty bit of abc coming in at 8.2 but it’s really sweet and I can say that it wasn’t my cuppa tea. The staff seemed knowledgeable about the beers on the lines and were honest with the beers they liked and which they didnt which was refreshing a but of honesty goes a long way in my book. I will be going back to see whats coming soon in terms of ale they have an over and stout coming that intrigues me.

We’ve been here twice, both times before concerts at town hall round corner and felt this was really good quality british pub food at it’s best with pub food prices and a decent selection of beer. Considering sat night and staff serving on bar, mains were brought very quickly and specials board changes, with a bit of variety plus staff very friendly. We live in hudds and wish there was somewhere half as decent in town. have paid a lot more in restraunts food not nearly as good.

I must admit to being a little torn writing this review. I have been in here a few times since it opened late last year, primarily for an after work drink. I can’t fault the range and selection of beers. They have a wide-ranging assortment covering various European lagers/beers/lambics etc. The last visit surprised me with Duvel Green on draught, something I have never even seen in Belgium. However I only ate there for the first time last week and sadly it proved to be quite a let down. The menu itself reads very well, between the four of us we ordered a variety of enticing mains, including Honey-glazed ham Hock with a Turnip, Carrot, Pea, Mint and Bean Quinoa Broth and Coq au Vin with Mustard Mash and Goose-fat roasted Vegetables. Each of these very promising sounding dishes was let down in the execution. The ham hock broth was overpowered by an abundance of dried mint, the hock itself was tough and unyielding. The coq au vin was floating in a thin broth that added no flavour to the chicken and the goat fat roasted vegetables were limp and soggy. It’s a great shame, but because it so nearly gets it right, but there was a consistency of poor execution that marred each dish. The staff were also very slow and generally seemed quite downbeat. I can appreciate staff might just be having a bad day, they are only human after all. However, this combined with the very average food does little to entice me back, but, at the same time I would be very glad to hear that things improved. They clearly have the right idea, but would benefit greatly from a little attention to detail.

A theatre night loomed and bookings were made here for the pre-performance munchies. Upon arrival the party was warmly welcomed and told that service would be timely due to the need to get to the Grand ANDITWAS! The food was of a good standard and was served with a smile(no complaints about the wine either). Considering that it was a Friday night and the place was packed it was quite a feat to serve the food quickly and never without a smile. Prices were a tiny bit high but what the hell, there was time for a leisurely stroll up to the theatre. Of particular note was the clarity of the menu regarding vegetarian and gluten free options
