This traditional pub is one if my locals so i have seen it at lots of different times of the day. It is a really friendly place, a pub and nit a bar. There are two bars, both of which have screens for watching sport. In the summer months you can also watch on the outdoor television. There are lots of offers, grill night, curry night and burger night. There is a small(but perfectly formed) garden but during the summer it can get really busy. The food is excellent, especially the sunday roast. Children are welcome here until 6.00 in the evening.

Two rooms and an outdoor space. This place is a lively local, and like Cheers there are definitely more than a few who Everyone knows their name. I wasn’t one of them. But even so the bar staff were super friendly, and at times it didn’t even feel like regulars were getting preferential treatment. Drinks selection is great if you’re a beer drinker, as an aficionado of apple type cider though the selection is less great. Rubbish in fact. With plenty of screens the main focus of the pub seems to be for sports, and on my latest visit I was ushered in various directions so that the aforementioned regulars could see the telly. You can’t expect regulars to move remember. So. Lovely staff. Good beer. Bad cider. Lots of sport. And a garden for the summer. Sound like your cup of tea? Then get down there. It’s probably the second best ‘pub’ in CA. After the Mustard Pot. But they don’t have sport.

I’m not too sure why no one ever felt that they were more enamoured of this place, but I suppose on a surface level, a pub is a pub is a pub. However, I’m going to assume that previous reviewers haven’t experienced the music pub quiz, which goes some way toward my affection for this cosy and welcoming local to the folks of Chapel A. To begin, yep. It’s a pub. It has nooks, cosy little rooms, and if you’re new to it, that slightly labyrinthine vibe. To be honest, if memory serves, it’s none too large –but somehow still felt a bit like a maze. It’s a proper old local, with hand pulled cask ales, half lagers and packets of crisps.(Or Nobbys nuts, if you prefer.) There’s a darts board, there’s a flat screen TV, there’s some excellent established bar staff to take your order. Of particular note includes the fine facial hair of one said bar man. Topped off with a tie dye t-shirt and Australian style leather hat, and you know this is one serious dude. In fact, I’m sure he was an understudy for the Big Lebowski. Or, at least, I’m going to spread that befitting rumour. So, said dude runs the music quiz. This quiz is easily one of the toughest, but most enjoyable, around. Designed for true music fans, there are forty questions, and they come in a unique style to most quizzes I’ve partaken in. First 5 questions you’ve to guess the artist, next five the song name, then there’s 10 on a picture round, an anagram, guess the year and more. If we’d not some true music buffs on our team, I’m sure I’d have been too embarrassed to hand in the sheet. Turns out we just about retained dignity with 25/40/(Yeah, I know. It’s a poor effort.) The other bit of trivia to this quiz is that it’s been running for eons –perhaps 15 years or so, and to that end, is an institution in Leeds. Essentially, what I’m saying is, that when you’re faced with a pub that is as standard as the next in structure, it’s details like the above that make it stand out. Go for the awesome bar dude, and his vapour pipe, but stay for the music quiz and friendly locals. I am a fan.

Been my local for few years now and best normal pub for miles around and better than the bars over Harrogate road. Good priced drinks decent selection for Real Ale drinkers. You can choose between the Good Side and Tap Room I don’t have preference. Never any bother when i’ve been in. Generally staff are efficient and overall place has nice local atmosphere

Top pub, great for watching football. Not over the top busy and usually get a seat. The pint of Stella at £3.01 makes me laugh, why not just make it £3.00 to keep things simpler for everyone.

Now then I’ve been looking for a place to call my local for months now but sadly I haven’t. So I called in here to check it out a couple of months ago and again sadly still haven’t found one. The prices are good they have a selection of cask ales and good prices on spirits. They show the sports and even have a dart board which is super rare but the people made this bar horrible. The bar staff were good remembered what I was drinking all night even when I changed for spirits to John smiths. This place is the kinda place that you walk into and the regulars just give you the most dirty looks cause I don’t fit the bill of the normal customer. I’m not 25 to 40 going bald with sad eyes. I’m upbeat chipper and look for a friendly chat about anything and everything but all I got was cold shoulder and scowls. So sadly this won’t be my local I shall try to find another but picking are slim in chapel allerton I shall not give up and I will keep in keeping on as they say lol.

The Regent is one of my favourite Chapel Allerton pubs. It’s the only ‘traditional’ pub around the area’s central hub of restaurants and bars that isn’t a little bit terrifying(The Nags Head — I’m looking at you). The Mustard Pot almost qualifies, but to me it feels a little too polished and poshly-decorated to fit into my(possibly narrow-minded) idea of what a ‘traditional’ pub is. So, that automatically gets The Regent points — sometimes you just don’t want the more high-energy and, let’s face it, slightly predatory atmosphere of bars like The Hub and Angelshare. That’s not to knock those places — they’re both places I have the odd(few) tipple(s). It’s just that sometimes you don’t want an extensive range of expensive European bottled beer and the feeling that someone across the room at least OUGHT to be checking you out. Sometimes you want somewhere relaxed where you can get a good cask ale. The Regent is split into two linked halves. If you take the door on your right you’ll wander into what I suppose was once the saloon or lounge bar. It’s plush and comfy, with beams showing in the roof and a stonework on display — particularly round the fire. If you take the left door you’ll wind up in what was once the public bar — a little less plush, but nice nonetheless. On either side you’ll find a decent range of beer and spirits on offer, including cask beers such as Black Sheep and IPA. The atmosphere tends to be lively without becoming leary, with punters ranging from their mid-twenties up to around the 50 or 60 mark. In terms of entertainment, The Regent has sports showing on its screens most of the time, backed up by a jukebox, darts board and games machine. It’s all very pleasant, there’s good beer, there’s a warm atmosphere and it doesn’t cost the Earth to drink there(although it doesn’t cost a pittance, either). That adds up to a win. There’s nothing astonishing about it, but it’s worth a few of your English pounds for a couple of pints if you’re in the area and not looking for a bar that would fit right in down on Call Lane. And… did I mention the Black Sheep?

The precedent has been set. I’m now open to most things(as long as no cruelty to animals is involved). So be it a swanky bar or traditional pub, I hold no fear. From the outside the Regent appears to be the latter. It’s a bubbling pub with quite an odd mixture of people. I’m not sure who it’s trying to attract but I guess diversity is a good thing and it’s certainly a diverse mix of loud sports fans and quiet smaller groups quaffing away in the corner. Maybe it’s because of its location or maybe it’s because it appeals to a broad selection of people. Plus it’s good beer ahoy. A pint of Black Sheep and most people are reasonably happy with that. For me, it didn’t quite feel right. Nothing that inspirational or stand out to be getting me to hurry back. Nothing especially bad either but it’s not somewhere I’d essentially go out of my way for.

The Regent was not quite as smelly when I went, as it was the day that Alexandra went in. The Regent is an alright pub amidst the yuppy heaven that is ‘Chappy-A’. It makes a nice change to find a pub that is non-fuss in an area that is predominantly made up of new bars, giving many young folks an alternative to Call Lane in the city centre. This pub is pretty much the king of quiz pubs, which frequently gives punters a chance to win some cash. I just think it is a shame that there is little by way of interesting and alluring booze behind the bar! The staff are nice and up for a laugh, hence the quiz nights. As with all C.A. pubs and bars, they get busy on a weekend, so get there early if you fancy sitting down with your pint of average booze.

I wanted to give these guys a 2, but then I felt too bad… the staff were so lovely and welcoming. But there was a serious problem with this this establishment. This problem was the smell. I sincerely hope this was a one off, otherwise I seriously think they should sort it out. It was foul. It smelt like there had been a recent sewage leak, and then someone had poorly attempted to cover it up with cheap deodorant. Urgh. A very sad state of affairs. I couldn’t spend too long in there as it was really quite unpleasant. Especially in an establishment where you are expected to consume drinks and food, it’s enough to put Bear Grills off his dinner! Anyway, lets leave that for a moment as I feel slightly unfair just cussing them down to the ground. The staff were absolutely lovely. A big, red faced, grinning, thorough bred Yorkshire bloke and a smaller shy man. Both had genuine smiles and offered to bring my drink to my table even though it is usual bar service(maybe they felt bad about the smell and were trying to cover it up with charm). Bless them. The coffee I had was standard instant coffee but at only 87p that was fine with me. They served all the usual pub culprits such as draught beers(Carling, Fosters, Kronenbourg, Stella, Tetley Smooth, Guiness and Strongbow cider) plus various real ales(Black Sheep Bitter, Tetley /Cask, Deuchars IPA and a guest ale). Weekly events: Monday — General Knowledge Quiz Tuesday — Music Quiz Wed — Grub Gambler(your chance to win your meal for free) Thurs — Movie Quiz They also show sports matches throughout the week. If you ever are passing, please go in and see the lovely shiny landlord, and let me know if the smell has gone!

The Regent is a great pub, especially for sunny afternoons as the two-level leafy beer-garden(now with outdoor heating) is one of the best in the area. The pub becomes the heart of the action during the annual Chapel Allerton Festival in September. There is a good selection of ales(Black Sheep and Pedigree and some guests) for a fair price. The best thing about this pub is the split nature of the interior, which serves to create a kind of bizarre social experiment. On the one side sit the middle class CPAers; quietly chatting and sipping drinks around the central fireplace. The other room is furnished by gambling machines and disco lights, and haunted by rowdy rugby league fans. All in all a great pub with lots of character, brilliant beer-garden and some top ales.
