Eaten here only once. Can honestly say that the steak I had was the worst thing I have ever tasted. Wish I had stayed at home and cooked it myself on the barbecue and saved myself a small fortune.

Having turned down a table here on a Friday as someone(me) was starving after having not eaten properly all day and wanted to sit down quickly, we returned the next day fully prepared to wait. And boy was it worth it. The staff were so friendly and attentive, always knowing the right moment to approach the table. We had a sharing platter between the four of us. The Creole prawns were divine as was the garlic bread. And then came the main course. I went for my favourite, Rib Eye and made it a surf & turf with king prawns and lobster Thermidor to make up the surf part. And that’s how I discovered I’m not a massive fan of lobster! But anyway. As well as my beautiful(medium cooked, just as I like it) steak, there was a massive bowl of chips. Dad also had Rib Eye and expressed similar sentiments on its tastiness. The boyfriend had sea bass, which was divine and mum went for cod. Both were very well recieved. Though unfortunately for me, with eyes bigger than my belly, I couldn’t finish my steak. Still, the puppy was very happy with the leftovers which we brought home for her. We managed to find room for dessert. Mum went for a floater coffee, while me, dad and the boyfriend went for the warm chocolate orange dessert. Dad demolished an entire one by himself, whereas we shared our one. It was absolutely delicious — like a warm Terry’s chocolate orange. Om nom nom. Then, with our full bellies, we paid the bill and made a cheeky request, fully expecting it to be turned down. You see, my boyfriend is an avid Guinness drinker and he loves a good Guinness pint glass. Well, there’s a new one and he wanted it very badly. So my mother, being from the ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’ school, asked our lovely waitress if my beloved could take the glass home. None of us were expecting her to say yes, but she did! Now I’ve got one very happy boyfriend(until the next one comes out…) All in all, an absolutely fantastic evening. Great food, great service and well worth the wait. It’s already been earmarked as my belated birthday meal when the parents are visiting next.

I am asking the reader to help me out here. I need you answer two questions in your head and hold onto those answers as you read this review. Firstly would you expect Christmas in a restaurant to be busier than normal? Secondly, what would you expect a STEAK house to specialise in and sell lots of? I attended this restaurant with some work colleagues for a Christmas meal. All was well and we were seated in reasonable time and allowed allowed time to peruse the rather satisfactory menu. The problems started when we ordered, they had been busier than usual and didn’t have any steak! A member of staff explained that they had had to send a delivery of steak back because it was substandard(hang on, they boast in the menu that they source their steak from carefully approved farms to maintain a high standard). I was told that they had some fillet steak left but that it was reserved for more expensive meals so rather than just paying extra for the fillet steak I would have to order a complete set meal costing rather a lot. We settled for what ever we could find on the menu within our budgets. To be fair the staff were pleasant and helpful in most ways and were not to blame for the mismanagement. At a later date, and after further complaints, we were given vouchers to use if we would return for another meal. We did this and were able to sample the steak which was as excellent a steak as I have experienced.

Bad service, bad attitude and mediocre food. Having waited 40 minutes to be seated, we were then told we could not take advantage of the lunchtime menu… which we protested about but told there was nothing that could be done. We then ordered the same food from a different menu at an additional cost… go figure. When the food arrived it was nothing special and we certainly won’t be returning.

Just returned from what should have been a very pleasent dining experience with my wife and 4 year old grandaughter at the Garforth Miller carter«family restaurant». Sat down at 7.30 completed main course at 8.30 and was considering what sweet to enjoy! when a staff member approaches the table in front of us and supposadly discreetly asked the middle aged couple if they wanted to move. I immediatley got up and asked for bill and to see manager to find out that it was the managers decision to approach the other table and he stood by it? why I asked my grandaughter was quiet not running about or causing a nuisance? I asked when did the ethos of this retaurant change as I had given good custom over last 20 years with my children as they were growing up? I stand by my decision was the pathetic responce received. I am absolutley livid how do I complain as there does not seem to be an advertised compaints policy? I will never return to this restaurant again and will write a formal letter of complaint to head office when I find the address. I would hope that the manager is ashamed of his actions in getting a young waitress to do what he should not have done!!! but I suspect he is to arrogant. I repeat when did the Old geoge change its ethos it has always been«family freindly»

We went there for the first time today(to save me cooking) Inside was wellcoming, with a rabbit warren type apperance, levels, and corners every where. We had to ask about food service, then we were quickly seated. Unfortunately we were seated right next to were the staff came out of the bar, with a view of the stairs, and the faint continuous unplesant odour of the toilets for the duration of our stay. The person who took our order and served us was lovely. We skipped starters, and ordered an 8 oz, and a 14 oz serlion on the bone. The meat was cooked as we requested it, yet was very small, and the 14 oz was more bone that meat — so frustrating. The sides were chips — put in a bowl with paper lining, which seemed ridiculous and pretentious to say they were just oven chips, and not homemade. The jacket potato was desicrated, and after 4 — 5 mouthfuls, the remainder would have been more at home at the ashes, been hit by a bat, rather than on the side of my plate. The veg was simply peas and cabbage, that was bland, clap cold, and small portioned. The side sauce was tasty, yet again clap cold and runny. Dessert didnt get much better, we had apple pie and custard. The apple pie filling was tasty — but the pastry was soggy and luke warm, served with luke warm custard. In any GOOD restaurant you can ask for a doggy bag without fuss(i always ask for the steak leftovers for the dogs) yet here, i was asked to sign a disclaimer, and told it was for health and safety reasons — in case there was an issue of food poisoning! The leftovers were for the dogs, what if we got food posioning, lol??? I dont think they are asked for doggy bags often! Overall the steak was enjoyable, well cooked, yet small. The sides were overcooked, cold, bland and small portioned. We paid quickly and left, with no plans to return in future!

Bit of a long wait for the food but the pub is lovely and my sister and I had a lovely meal. It was pretty reasonable too

Well if there is one thing lacking in my profile it is meat at it’s purist. So I guessed I should hit a steak and grill and find out what I’m missing. Roll up the Old George. I kind of feel I should wear cowboy boots and rock up with a mysterious grey between my legs but I’m guessing that isn’t appropriate for Garforth. However, we are talking meat here and grilled. Pure and simple. With that in mind I went for a light starter and fish and cheese feature quite highly. The main event has to be well the mains though. It’s steak or meat just the way you like it. That’s not excluded vegetarians. You can have a stilton and mushroom burger or try the veggie special of the day. In fact I went for the stilton and mushroom burger and it met my seal of approval. Good stuff so far. Don’t forget to save some room for the sweets too but only if you like more American themed ones. How about some brownie, apple pie or New York cheese cake. I better stop dribbling now or I’ll get carted away by the funny police. To add to it’s appeal the price won’t set you back an American airfare either so there really are plenty of reasons to have high noon here.

Used to be great when it was the Old George, but the new owners(Miller and Carter) have ruined it. It was refurbed before the take over and I liked it as it was originally with all those lovely antique prints and cards and other oddities on the walls. Then, as i say, it was refurbed into something a bit more modern Then M&C took over and refurbed it again! It doesn’t have the same warm and welcoming feeling it used to have. and that is not just because of the décor. My brother used to work there and he soon left after the take over as well as several other members of staff because of the abuse of higher ups. M&C are a-holes and I’m not going back.

This has now changed to a Miller and Carter steak pub. I have been twice and eaten both times. The first was through the day and we chose from the deal menu 2 courses for about £8 and our second visit was on an evening and we chose from the main menu. Both meals were fantastic and the service was spot on. It is more expensive now but the steaks are amazing and cooked perfectly.

visited this pub when it was a beefeater pub we have been in since for a drink but found that the place was freezing in the bar area went on 30⁄12 for a meal around 5.30 was totally ignored at the reception desk whilst waiting to see if a table was free. a group who had already pre booked arrived & was taken in without an acknowledgement that i was there a couple then joined the q & was asked what they wanted they pointed out that i had been there 1st was told a wait of ½ hr for table went to desk at allotted time & was told table not ready. eventually got a table when one of the waitresses who we knew placed us on a table that thad been pre booked for 7.30 the meal was very good although there was a long wait between courses our waitress was excelent disappointed that The Old George name had disappeared as it was a landmark to Garforth where everyone gave directions from the pub also smelled of drains & we nearly did not stay because it was making us feel ill it was ok in the restaurant B & D Mortimer

We used to visit this pub fairly regularly for lunch when it was a Beefeater and never had cause for complaint, so when we saw that it had changed hands and was now refurbished under the Miller and Carter brand name, we decided to try it. A very disappointing experience. Our meals arrived after a wait of about 30 minutes(for a BLT and a small steak). My wife’s steak was not very warm(a knob of butter on the top was not even melting!) so she complained and the steak was returned to the kitchen with an assurance that it would be about 5 minutes. After nearly 15 minutes another steak arrived which was now hot but was about 25% fat. My BLT was just about OK but quite fatty, and not particularly good value at £5.50. Apart from this, by the time my wife got her meal I had finished mine, so lunch together did not happen. The only good thing about this visit was the beer(Black Sheep) At least a complaint to the manager resulted in a refund but I’m not sure if we will return

This place went through a refurbishment last year which refreshed the pub and the seperate resturant area. It has 2 menus one for the pub side(serving your standard pub grub, burgers, chicken fish & chips etc. with a light lunch menu of sandwiches and baked potatoes) and one in the resturant serving better quality food and has early bird offers if you get in midweek before 7.00pm. The sunday lunch served in the resturant is good and well cooked but I suggest booking as it is very busy on Sundays. This place has always had a good reputation and I have been many times and have never had a bad meal in the resturant here. I don’t like the new pub layout as much as there have gone for fewer larger tables which means on busy nights you can be left standing at the bar.

I’ve been here a handful of times and can’t say its the best place in the world for food. Its a tad overated and the last time I went with my other half and his brother the food was really poor. We had to send one meal back because it was cold and when they sent it back it had obviously just been put under the grill for a few mins but was still cold! In the end we got one of the meals knocked off our bill but its put me off going again.

It’s an okay pub, but it’s a bit overated. Lots of people I know think it’s fantastic but I’ve had two meals there and not been impressed with either really. For the price you pay you’d expect something better than the usual pub food for your money, but the menu at the Old George makes meals sound a lot better than they are, unless I’m just assuming it’s going to be a lot better than it is judging by the price. It’s an okay pub but a little pricey.
