River Island

Ooh, lord — I spent a lot when I last came in here. I’ve been a long-​time brand fan of RI, and although I’ve strayed over the years, it’s like they just made the biggest comeback in my life. For some reason, I wanted everything they had in the Trinity store. Maybe it was the fresh, appealing arrangements — compared to the old iteration, this place looks fresh and clean. I don’t know what it is about Trinity (maybe they are harsh overlords?!) but all their versions of previously-​existing brand shops have been tidier and better.
The staff were helpful, and not in that cloying, overbearing way, and everything was displayed for ease of browsing. Changing rooms were clean and well-​lit, which is always a boon. I liked the sale rail placement — right near the changing rooms (I see what you did!) as was the ‘last chance’ rail. (I think!) Anyway, that’s where I spotted my ridiculously loud, bright yellow coat that I’m going to rock in spring.
Long and short of it – TopShop’s out. (Lame, crap style at the mo.) RI’s IN! Think cool baggy, yet womanly casuals, and a whole host of eye-​catching statement pieces. Give ‘em a browse.
