Visited because I wanted to go blonder and brighter after being told by my previous stylist I couldn’t go lighter as my hair would get damaged. Asked for a full head of foils though I was very wary and the lady said no problem, your hair is very thick. Was left for what felt like an hour with hot bleach fizzing on my head and irritating my scalp. Was then led over to the wash bowl where she washed my yellow hair and told me my hair felt dry and that I should be very careful with it. I was extremely worried(having had hair disasters at home I knew the consequences of hair bleaching). She then toned my hair for only 3 minutes which is not long enough for hair so yellow and brassy. As she was drying my hair, no word of a lie, My bleached hair was coming off in clumps in the ladies hairbrush and all over the floor. She then said it would be good to give me another cut for ‘shape’ My hair was completely ruined. A yellow brassy mess and felt very very dry. I had to pay £85 for the worst hair disaster I have ever had. I would not recommend this hair salon. I was extremely upset watching her brush my hair and it just breaking off. It was an awful experience.

So, my roots were becoming as long as as my arm and I was in desperate need of a cut and colour. Having mostly dyed my own hair I thought it’d be pleasant to have it done properly, and Rebel Pin Up had been recommended to me before, so booked myself an appointment. It was as easy as phoning in and choosing a day that suited us both. I came in and was greeted pleasantly and after a two minute wait was seated ready for discussion. The salon itself shares the building with Paper Scissors Stone, a clothing and artwork shop, and is grandly decorated in plush reds and the most beautiful vintage framed mirrors. I even voiced my jealousy over the mirrors and he said if I was serious he could source me one, should I have about five hundred quids spare!(I don’t, sadly.) I told him that I’d like to go as dark as possible, and he talked me round to more of a chocolate colour rather than black, to which I agreed. I also told him that I’d been considering a fringe for a while and he was very enthusiastic about that so I threw caution to the wind and we decided to go for it! After a pleasant hair wash and only a small amount of time dying my hair, we were ready for the cut. The whole appointment was swift(as swift as it could have been, considering my hair was being dyed) and pleasant — both the main chap and the guy who dyed my hair were lovely and friendly, but not awkwardly so. My cut was lovely, and thankfully the fringe appears to suit, and I even got a small amount of discount since I was a regular customer at Box Creative, where they were before hand. My colour was perfect, it mixed in with the red tones of my previous dye job, and although not as dark as I’d have liked it really really suited me. There’s every chance that had we gone darker I’d look like a pillock, so props to him for staying strong and advising the chocolate shade! He told me to pop in anytime the fringe needed a top up cut, which I did, and it was indeed free. Unfortunately the top up fringe cut wasn’t straight but I didn’t notice until I got home so I’m sure this was an oversight, and had I noticed I am certain he’d have fixed it up no problem! All in all I think this is a fabulous salon. They do stylings as well as cuts and colour(at competitive prices; mine should have been about seventy pounds for a cut and colour, which isn’t too bad) and they even have the odd event on. A few weeks ago they were holding free vintage styling sessions at various venues, which I’m gutted I missed, so keep your eyes and ears open about this innovative salon…
