Our second home. An unimposing exterior with lovely seasonal window art leads you in to the eclectic deli and lunch room. The deli stocks amazing condiments from brands like tracklements and south devon chilli farms. Good teapigs range too. Lunches are amazing. Salads are gargantuan and varied with a fine blend of leaves, pickles and coleslaw. A pookys sandwich is a full meal with the best ingredients, side salad, ‘slaw and posh crisps. I’m addicted to their topside beef, rare and delicious with wholegrain mustard on olive ciabatta. Amazing specials keep things varied and they love to build repeat custom. Coffees are great too and I’ve also enjoyed their frozen ready meals.

A lovely place for lunch and a good little deli too. Always busy which is a sign that others enjoy eating there too. Eat in or takeaway available and the staff are very friendly. I have never had a disappointing lunch here, everything is freshly made to order. really imaginative salads, themed platters and sandwiches. They also sell gift boxes of Yorkshire beers which make brilliant gifts and have their own range of ready meals which are great for those cant be bothered to cook days.

Definately a fan, love it here. The sandwiches are not curly old dried bread with filling but a delightful, mouthwatering arrangement with salad and crisps! Lovely atmosphere too!

I love this little place. I usually go for a late breakfast with a friend so I cant review all the food but the sausage sandwich is ace and the staff are really friendly. They also have a great selection of unusual food on sale. I love it!

I was passing and I was hungry… there was no menu or price list in sight so I ventured in to find out more. At first glance I thought the menu sounded delicious but was a bit to expensive and almost walked out again but hunger and reckless abandon won the day. I was impressed by the number of questions asked of me on ordering because i think that is a sign of attention to detail and good customer care(I’ve never been asked how strong I want my tea before). The seating area felt comfortable and relaxed and the literature on the walls and shelves loaded with great food spoke of an real earth friendly, local business. When my food arrived there was a goodly amount and I mentally divided the price by two because, being a yorkshireman, I would share if I brought someone here for lunch. My pannini was good although a little over done and the side salad was awesome.(and the cup of tea was just right)

After a bit of a lengthy wander in Horsforth my friend and I decided to stop for sustenance. Always keen to check out the local indie cafes we had already pre-decided to stop by here for our coffee break and I’m so glad that we did. It was a delightful visit! As soon as you wander in you’ll find hoards and hoards of curious and delicious items on sale. They’ve some large shelving units against the right wall which are stocked to the brim with all kinds of interesting things. There are the usual mixture of indie jams, condiments, pickled items, rices, pastas, dried fruits, biscuits and all sorts. There are also some more unusual items like ‘Fluff’, which is spreadable marshmallow for toast(which apparently can be enjoyed as part of a ‘balanced’ breakfast), banoffee sauce(which I *really* wanted but had absolutely no reason to purchase) and octopus tentacles in jars! The deli counter had hoards of wonderful looking cheeses, salad items, olives and other delicious things. They also had a fridge with organic veg and milk too. The menu looked to be a pretty tasty affair too, and their coffee was a real treat. My friend had the ‘spanish chocolate’ which looked like a normal hot chocolate and spray whipped cream but I’m told it was extremely chocolatey. The staff were also absolutely lovely, both friendly and helpful, and deserve a mention. All in all, an absolute must if you are about in Horsforth!

Despite a rather odd name that’s obviously going for ‘cute and quirky’ but ends up sounding like a nauseating children’s clothing shop, Pooky & Grumps is an admirable deli and café that, rather than simply jumping on the organic-and-local bandwagon like so many other establishments, has actually taken the time and effort to become experts on Yorkshire’s yummy local produce. Apparently they stock the largest selection of Yorkshire-made products in Leeds, and have obviously paid a lot of attention to the products they stock, balancing local fresh fruit, veg and cheeses with artisan products from further afield. However the real strong point of Pooky’s — aside from being named after Garfield’s teddy bear — is in its ability to utilise local sourcing to offer you produce that often comes in at better value than its supermarket-bought counterparts.

Pooky & Grumps paints the picture of a quintessentially English country garden in my mind and the image wasn’t destroyed when I visited. With an array of exciting, fresh ingredients and homemade scones and salads, this is a foodies dream! The staff are fully trained with the UK Cheese and Charcuterie guilds and LOVE to discuss their products with you. I’m a regular customer buying the homemade scones and browsing the shevles full of continental foods. The price is brilliant, and what’s more, Pooky & Grumps can organise personalised catering service for you!

First of all, it must be said that this deli on New Road Side has the most undeniably cool name in Leeds. I have no idea what relation it has to what the place sells — perhaps it’s Yorkshire for ‘classy local produce’? Because good quality local goods are what you get at Pooky, and, unlike most places that claim to be a ‘deli’ nowadays, this place really lives up to the title. Basically, it sells stuff that you’re never going to find in a supermarket — all manner of fine cheese, ham and groceries, some of which is local, and some of which is more exotic. The website proudly informs you that this deli has«the largest selection of Yorkshire made products within Leeds» and this fact, combined with the glorious sandwiches and salads they offer confirms Pooky & Grumps’ status as one of the most impressive and unique businesses in Leeds.
