Café Giardino is more like a canteen than a café with its tray-rail and sandwich-filling set up. It offers many kinds of sandwiches with fresh fillings, as we are reminded by the posters proclaiming the café to be ‘natural’, ‘fresh’ and ‘healthy’. I looked at the packets of biscuits, the sugary drinks and meaty options and wondered if the signs had been delivered to the wrong café? Apart from the regular sandwiches you could opt for a hot pasta or lasagna dish. This hot meal offering does make it a little different from other cafes that stick to sandwiches and jacket potatoes. If you’re over 60 you can get a discount too! Maybe I wasn’t so taken by the place because I am not their desired audience. On the plus side, there is an abundance of seating and is in the St Johns shopping centre, away from the rush and bustle of the town.

Café Giardino prides itself on its fresh food, and promotes itself through stating how everything is freshly prepared instore. Where have we heard that before??? Having said that, I think Café Giardino takes this pretty seriously. Next to Jumbo, at the top of the St Johns Centre, Café Giardino can be a rather nice place to venture on your own. Slightly out of the way from the rowdiness of town, it feels like a little haven to have a private coffee and sandwich. Overall, I was pretty impressed, I’m almost glad people don’t know too much about this one!
