A Saturday night curry was something I was very much looking forward to, but sadly Thaal did not live up to our expectations. At first everything was great — a friendly greeting and a drink at the bar while we perused the menu. Our order was taken and then we were shown to our table, where our starters were delivered in a reasonable time. I had the Paneer Tikka, which was well cooked and served with a fresh salad. By all accounts, my companions’ starters were also very tasty. For my main I went for the Narang Lamb Lazeez, which was great. The lamb was tender and it had just the right amount of spice for my taste i.e. not a great deal! However, it seemed that none of the dishes we ordered had a kick, which was a bit of a disappointment to my companions who like it spicy. The biggest disappointment however, was the service. The restaurant got very busy very quickly and there clearly weren’t enough staff to cope. As our mains arrived we ordered a round of drinks, and after 10 – 15 minutes there was no sign of them. I politely reminded the waiter about our order and eventually they arrived. Just as we finished our meal. They then started to clear the table but forgot to come back and finish the job. It really is a shame about the service, because the food was pretty good and the staff were welcoming. One to visit on a quiet day perhaps.
