A slightly moot review, but worth having something to point this out. I went here a few years back, a few times. It used to be something we would do after leaving The Peel(metal bar in Kingston, when it was still indeed a metal bar), for the amusing contrast of locations. The dance floor was wonderfully cheesy — lit up from under the floor, with lots of different coloured squares. Laser lights coming at you, and god knows what other lights and disco equipment I’ve since forgotten. The music was just as cheesy. The bar was typical. The people were scary. Some lovely people there, and I met a few friends there on several occassions — but I always managed to find some creepy guy to stalk me for half the night, buying me drinks, until one of my friends would walk over and pretend we’re dating. Woo hoo for friends! I heard some dodgy rumours about the toilets, but never had to go, so can’t say from experience. In fact, I don’t think I ever left the dance floor to explore ‘the other floor’, whatever purpose it served. It wasn’t fantastic, but for those with a more 80s/gay/non typical club taste, it was most certainly the best on offer in Kingston. Whilst others, like Oceana, may have more options if you’re after a general clubbing night, this was a specialised place. And special it was. Alas, it is now known as Escape. I don’t know if it’s the same ownership or not, renovated or not, but the memory shall live on.
