The Old Bakehouse

I don’t know why I do it to myself, but I must be the eternal optimist. However, The Old Bakehouse has settled it for me. I will never order BBQ Ribs from a restaurant again! The meat was tender and falling off the bone. Too tender and too easily falling off the bone – two telltale signs that the ribs have not actually been BBQ’ed but slow-​cooked in a liquid and doused in a weak, unspectacular, unimaginative sauce. I was so disappointed that I’m never taking the risk again.
Now, what they did so well is the chunky chips. In this case, I was expecting bland and boring chips sold in bulk to restaurants but was pleasantly surprised to receive large well-​seasoned hand-​cut (?) fried potatoes. Unfortunately, there weren’t enough of them – I wanted more.
The chips suggest that The Old Bakehouse might actually have an able chef in the back, but the ribs will probably keep me from testing that theory again.

An excellent restaurant. Never had a bad meal there. Staff are fun and chatty, attentive and happy. Great food, great menu. Go to The Olive Lounge first and when your meal’s ready they will escort you to your table. Nice touch.

Nice décor and option to start in the courtyard with a drink, then come and eat inside and after wards go to the cocktail lounge downstairs.

Extremely friendly service, quick and attentive, our meals were tastefully presented, perfectly cooked and tasted heavenly.
The menu is neither too extensive nor so limited as to be boring, a good balance.
The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, fine for an intimate date as even with a full house a conversation is possible.
Plenty of nearby parking is another bonus.

Great customer service (if slightly cool) and professionalism. This is a lovely intimate dining experience, with wooden floors and the character of the mill has been preserved.
Fillipos and Lisa have really made this personal, with lovely handmade Greek coffees on offer and all dishes and drinks are beautifully presented. The menu is not very extensive, but there is something for everyone and it is sure to impress even harsh critics. It has won Northamptonshire food awards and deservedly so.
The Sunday meal offer is worth taking advantage of and they have made a wine bar in the terrace behind the restaurant if you wanted to continue your experience. This again, has incorporated the features of the old building and is tastefully decorated throughout, with comfy leather sofas and solid wooden tables.
Be careful of the prices in the wine bar if you are on a budget though!

The Old Bake House is almost a great restaurant. The venue is in a lovely old property set over 3 floors with exposed beams and olde worlde charm. I found the staff to be pleasant and eager to please with a jovial upbeat feeling to the place.
However, I felt that the food let it down slightly. Mediterranean food is all about freshness and simplicity. On the couple of occasions we have been there I have found that fish or meats used have not been particularly fresh (probably frozen) with heavy sauces to disguise.
They just need to get back to basics to make it perfect. However, judging by the number of customers there it seems that the local Kettering population don’t seem to mind!!!

Both the lunch menu and evening menu provide a choice of Mediterranean dishes. A lovely setting with outside seating area and bookings available. The staff are extremely helpful and the service is quick. Clean facilities and plenty of parking on the Market Square along with its relaxed atmosphere allow for a relaxing evening with friends, business lunches or a romantic meal.
