If you’re looking for china tea or exotic honey then you won’t find it in this little café/deli in a pleasant square off the main streets in Ilkley. Almost everything here is branded ‘Yorkshire’. You can find a cuppa made from Yorkshire tea, eat Yorkshire crisps and buy Yorkshire honey(good for hay fever, I’ve heard, to build up a tolerance to local pollen). I’m not sure about the coffee as I’m sure they don’t grow coffee beans here but I’m sure its local in some way. Luckily I love Yorkshire so I was fully prepared to sit down at one of their nice wooden tables to try a cake. It was such a nice day that I sat outside under a large tree(insert hazy edges to this idyllic image). There was a sign on the door stating it was a push-chair friendly place, luckily or half the clientele would not have been able to get in!

Now this is a hard choice. I’m in need of some caffeine abuse and to be honest it is almost an embarrassment of riches. So much coffee, so little time. First stop, the Yorkshire Deli. This is a lovely café just tucked off the main street. It’s bright and breezy and the staff are young, friendly but also far too attractive for my liking. I’m almost thinking of starting my own place with purely facially challenged staff, fronted by me of course. That aside, it’s a real winner. I went for a cafeteria of rich and dark java coffee and it was yummy. Maybe ordering enough for two people was a bad move though because I was bouncing off the walls after consuming said beverage. As for the food, it’s another day off the diet. Divine home made cakes all the way please. I can highly recommend the carrot cake. If you fancy something savoury or lunch they have a fantastic selection of tasty sandwiches combining fine ingredients and they also serve up a mean potato. The spud didn’t insult me or take me out for dinner and then never call me again; I’m referring to its size. A nice big helping of it. It isn’t cheap but not overly expensive either and to be honest Ilkley isn’t known for being a budget busting destination. Definitely worth a stop off to refresh those flagging limbs or growling tummies.
