I suffer for the name of my art. That’s what I tell the bank manager and that’s what I’m telling you. It’s a lie but I’ll tell you it anyway. So I’ll suffer some more with another pub hit. It’s tough but someone has to do it. So here we are at the Hare and Hounds. This has been a long standing pub, known well locally. It’s changed hands quite a bit in recent years but now is firmly attached to a chain. That’s not to say that’s always a bad thing. What it means is this is your 2 for 1 whacky warehouse kind of venue. That said it is fantastic for the kids. What child doesn’t love a whacky warehouse and it means us adults can get on with the serious business of sipping coffee and eating our own body weight in food. As for the food, it’s fine. Nothing more and nothing less. What I will say though that this is a great family establishment and that’s not always so easy to find. It deserves credit for that alone.

The Hare and Hounds is a pub inside an enormous building in Menston that seems off-puttingly gargantuan from the outside. Once you realise that it has a kids’ Wacky Warehouse play area inside, however, it becomes obvious why the place is so huge. I’ve never been a fan of pubs with kids play parks tagged on to the side. Perhaps I will be when I have my own young ‘uns, but for now, I’d rather not have kids running around my drinking holes, thanks. Having said that, the food and beer selection is large, good and cheap, and for families, this place is undeniably a haven. It’s just not so good if you want a pub to be a pub.

A large family-oriented eating pub with its own ‘Wacky Warehouse’ childrens play area(for a fee) and large garden and play area out the back. Not a cosy pub, but good value food for when you’re hungry and a budget. Plenty of choice at the bar. Could probably do with updating — its starting to look very nineties.
