My husband, son, and I arrived on Cranbrook Road after a long travel day in which we had overslept the hotel breakfast, lost time waiting for the shuttle to get our rental car, and had the navigation system in the car recalculating crazily from Heathrow to Ilford. We were famished. This pretty little buffet was the perfect stop after checking in. And there were Thai and Indian selections, too, along with fresh seafood. The fare was delicious and the service was friendly and thoughtful.

Pros Gourmet is situtaed close to the Cinemas on Clements Rd in Ilford. It is also in a line of restaurants that are established there such as Nandos, Frankie & Bennys and Bollywood grill. There is ample parking but it is all pay and display. It is also possible to go shopping at the exchange and walk to the restaurantwhich I think many people do on the weekends. It is very crowded on saturday and sunday lunch times and you may have to wait for a table. The buffet is the most famous and the daytime prices vary from night time(which are double!). The service is good and it is also clean. They dont take much time to serve your drinks and you are then free to get you buffetwhich is pretty stardard with a lot of fried foods. The prices are quite reasonable and you can also take away boxes of food with your choice from the buffet. Cons It is an average experience and I would rate it as a McDonalds or a KFC

Hmmm, not soo good. It’s an all you can eat buffet affair which doesn’t really bode for quality food but I do expect better. It’s around £5 for lunch and I think £7.50 for dinner, I obviously manage to eat quite a lot and had a bit of a food coma afterwards but I didn’t feel satisfied. There wasn’t really all that much on offer, if you’re looking for variety just the standard sweet & sour chicken and fried rice malarky. So don’t go if you want to eat quality Chinese food but if you want to fill a hole…
