We booked a table on the Friday for 8 pm Saturday evening, although we requested 7.30 they stated that they needed to stagger the service which was fair enough. We then discussed where we would be sitting. not next to kitchen or toilets. On the Saturday we arrived at 7.50 pm and were sat at the bar as ‘our table’ was not ready. We had a drink and asked for a bottle of wine to be opened to breath and ordered our food which was the most expensive on the menu. At 8.30 ‘our table’ was still not ready. It was admitted that they had had problems; you bet they did. We were offered the oft quoted seats next to the smelly toilets which were in a ‘dead’ corridor type area but refused. I went to search for another restaurant which took 5 minutes. We then paid the bill and left and went to the Old Marine hotel around the corner and were surprised at the good quality of the food and service at a much more reasonable price than Chives. My advicestay well clear of this place and its greedy proprietor who is only too ready to overbook and upset people. It looks like the Chives management have posted the positive reviews.

Although the restaurant is very small and can sometimes seem cramped Chives has a lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. The food is pricey compared with other places in Hunstanton but you definately get what you pay for! They do a lovely range of pastas and I always feel spoilt for choice. They also serve pizza and a variety of main courses as well as daily specials. During the day it is mainly marketed as a coffee shop and in the evening it becomes a wine bar. The seats are very comfotable and the restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. Would definately recommend for a nice meal in Hunstanton.
