Wokkas is a more a small friendly Chinese place whereas not far away is a mass market Chinese that offers far more than Wokkas does but not with the same care. It is a small place and you can actually see your food being cooked, we have visited on a dinner time and for a set price you have a starter and main meal along with a drink, tea for us. The food is superb the service is equal to it and all in all a friendly little place instead of the eat all you can type Chinese restaurant that many people so love. If you like Chinese food with a little more personalised approach then give Wokkas a try.

So… when you’re in Hull, you’re probably thinking«Let’s do Chinese.» Well, then you’re in luck… because Wokkas is just the place. I’m not sure, but I believe it’s more Cantonese style Chinese, but I frankly have no idea what I’m talking about. I do know one fact however… and it’s that the woman who is the solo waitress of the place, is in fact, the Nicest. Woman. Ever. She ridiculously excited to serve me and the other patrons… it’s a huge part of the charm, and will certainly keep me coming back every time I’m in town. On to the food. The Singapore Fried Noodle is excellent. I highly recommend. The Duck curry… eh, it’s alright, but not a favorite. The fried tofu with spicy salt… excellent appetizer, even for tofu haters. They’ve got beers, they’ve got options, it’s all fried up and cooked up to order in a kitchen that is open to the restaurant(none of that shady Chinese restaurant microwaving General Tso’s in the back stuff… this is Ye Olde Real Deal). As for the location, it’s super convenient for a traveler like me. It’s right next to train station and the hotels nearby. Some nights it seemed a bit more full, others it was empty, so that’s hit or miss. Ultimately, you’ve got to give it a go.

Good Chinese restaurant. Friendly service. Especially good are the squid and Singapore fries noodles.

Found this by chance while staying in Hull on business. Food was excellent, freshly cooked. Bistro is small which helps greatly as all cooked to order. This really is as good as it gets food wise. Prices are very reasonable.

As restaurants go, it’s closer to the sort of sidestreet places you find in Hong Kong and Macau, all bright lights and formica table tops, but if you put that aside and order from the a la carte(or rather not from the set lunch menu) you can get a terrifically flavoursome(and large) meal for less than £15. As a starter I also recommend the squid, which is superb when freshly cooked — and you can watch it being cooked — and one of the noodle dishes, with a couple of Tsing-Tao beers. It’s not haute cuisine, but it’s not meant to be. It’s just big honest flavours.

Nice Chinese restaurant, just across from the station. I had Chicken in Chilli Sauce, which was nice but not particularly special. It was definitely better than a run of the mill take away though — and freshly prepared. The service was extremely friendly, and constantly refilled my large cup of Chinese tea(which was only £1). The food arrived really quickly, so the place is great when waiting for a train to catch — and definitely a nice alternative to the formulaic restaurants in St. Stephen’s.

Had to try it after reading good reviews about this place! This has to be the best Chinese food that I have had in a while! Good value and great friendly staff. The food is delicious and is served quickly. Love it, highly recomend you try it, and I shall be going back soon :)

I went to Wokkas three times, having read the reviews on this site and was very disappointed with the lunch service and food but pleased overall on the night. It certainly isn’t the best Chinese food in Hull, on an evening the food was hot, fresh and fairly good quality ingredients, but the flavour was not fantastic, quite simple flavours without any real depth, complexity or flair. Still nice enough for a visit. The service was certainly excellent on the evening, much much better than on a lunch time. I tried the set lunch menu too and was exceptionally disapppointed, it was a good price £6.20 for a starter, main course and drink, the food was hot, but the quality just wasn’t there, obviously they had priced the menu cheap to the cost of the ingredients. Whilst it was cooked ‘to order’ and fresh, the starter is only a very small portion, a taster rather than a starter and the both courses were very bland. Service was attrocious on my second lunch time visit as several members of staff were unattentive, deeply engrossed in their gossipping, then overly keen to rush customers out, by billing far too early before main courses and drinks were consumed. The restaurant is obviously a busy one and it is well located but I wouldn’t say it is anything special, it certainly isn’t anywhere near the best Chinese in Hull nor does it provide the best quality or value meal in Hull. I may have caught it on off days, so it may be worth a try, but if you do go, then miss the lunchtime and go on an evening.

Wokkas is the best chinese restaurant in Hull. The food is fantastic and so fresh — you can see them making it in front of you! The staff are very friendly and helpful, I visit Wokkas once every two weeks and I wish I could go more! The chicken curry is fantastic as is the mixed starters for one and at £3 it is such a bargain! The lunch menu is great value aswell — only £5.90 for a starter, main course and a drink :)

Great little chinese restaurant limited menu but what they do is superb. An open kitchen and specials add to a great experience. Make a detour for here the next time you are in Hull.

Ordered takeaway, it was ready in under 5 minutes. Great food. Very fresh and not heavy. Deep fried Squid is well worth trying.
