First the good news. Very friendly and welcoming staff, comfortable surroundings, good pub type menu at reasonable prices. Food is home cooked, hot and tasty and made to order so be prepared for a wait to get your food order. Pub has a no swearing policy which is a great idea and clearly aimed at making this a family friendly pub. Bad news. The people on the next table didn’t understand the concept of a no swearing policy and basically ruined our early Saturday evening meal, the main foul mouthed customer swore all the time and in front of his young son. we will visit again but not on a Saturday early evening during the football season.

This is the most quickly improved and dramatically turned round pub that I have ever known. It has changed from being a disastrous, dirty, inhospitable and uncared for establishment to a clean, inviting, warm and friendly environment. The area outside, at the immediate rear, has been decked and covered over and the car park has been improved immensly. There is a childrens play area and it is very evident that this is a family friendly pub. The food is from a well balanced, unpretentious and reasonably priced menu and is always spot on. It’s hard to resist a delicious beef baguette with gravy and real chunky home made chips! As well as providing a great place to drink and eat, The Flying Ferret is making a difference in Shelley as a place to meet and is doing great fund raising for various local charities. Thank you to all involved for making the time and effort to make that difference!

I’ve spent many hours in this pub with our friends as they used to live round the corner. They have a small bar with a few stools then a kind of lounge area where they have a TV showing the big games and there’s also a competition dart board as they are part of the darts league. Round the corner and to the back is the pool table room where I’ve enjoyed beating my good friend on many occasions. They have seating to the front and in a small garden to the back, plus a small car park. It’s a nice tidy pub, with friendly staff and fairly good beer. Don’t remember it ever going quiet when I, a stranger, walked in.
