Tattersall Castle is on the road between Sleaford and Horncastle. Unusual for a castle it is built of bricks. It was built in 1434 for Ralph, Lord Cromwell on the site of Sir Robert de Tatershall’s 13th century castle, and is a very fine example of a late medieval brick castle. Of Lord Cromwell’s castle the keep and moat still remain. Up near the top are lots of twisty little corridors great for hide and seek. Ok I am a kid! Bet kids would love it though. Next to the castle, Lord Cromwell built the perpendicular style ’ Holy Trinity Church It is a collegiate church. Near the font is a plaque marking the grave of Tattershall’s famous local resident, Tom Thumb, who was just 47 cm tall and died in 1620, aged 101. His tiny house(though it looks fake to me) can be seen on the roof of another, larger house in the village. Not too expensive to go in the castle and it is fairly interesting. Church and Tom Thumb view are free.
