Bar Meze

I went there yesterday (15^th June 2012) with my wife and son and a mate from London who has a big choice of Greek Restaurants, but he was very impressed with the food. We had the Meze main meal and the selection of dishes was amazing. The sevice was efficient and friendly from all the staff and, as drink had been taken both before we went in and during the meal, my mate accidently left his hat in there. About five minutes later we saw one of the guys from the restaurant running down the road after us with the hat. Well done Bar Meze for the excellent food and service.

This is Hitchin’s only Greek restaurant and it’s not a bad effort. The food is good and the starter meze, in my opinion, is a must — a good size and a fair price.
Why only three stars then I hear you ask? Well the main courses are very good but they are, in my experience, overpriced. They’re also not particularly large and you’ll find that you need to order several of them to put together a decent sized meal. This means that when the bill arrives you’re in for a bit of a shock.
Don’t get me wrong however — the food is good, the atmosphere congenial and the service pleasant and as long as you’re prepared for the prices then you’re in for a treat — just don’t get carried away!

Beautiful Food, Beautiful Menu and huge variety of food. I came here as part of a function with my local football team s an end of season do. The selection of food we experienced and the service was second to none — Bar Meze is the only Greek outfit in Hitchin and truly shines! Hitchin itself is a lovely, old market town with a really friendly and charming atmosphere. Bar Meze is located down one of the side, cobbled streets. Superb! The staff are always happy to help and are very well trained. I’d give them ten out of ten for service, quality of food and atmosphere.

I have been visiting this restaurant for around six years now. The good thing about it is that because of its meze menu you can have as little or as much as you want. If I am not particularly hungry, I will just order a couple of dips and some pitta bread.
Last time I went there, a couple of months ago, I ordered the full monty (their full meze) to share with my friend. Big mistake!!! Although the food was gorgeous, we couldn’t eat it all, and virtually rolled out of there, clutching our stomachs. It was all washed down with a large gin and toniclovely. The restaurant itself is on two levels and has very simple décor. The staff are very friendly and the service has always been great every time I have been there. I would definitely recommend this place.
