I really enjoyed the golf and the stay here. However I was disappointed with breakfast and made a complaint and have received an apology.

Remote hotel in an old manor house. The staff is fantastic and the property is clearly well maintained. I heard that the golf course was awesome however rain during our stay and cold temperatures prevented us from enjoying it. Good restaurant though service can be slow.

It’s been a while since I was here, but my visit to Hertfordshire with my mum was more for nostalgic reasons. You see, my mum was six and living in Hampstead Gardens Suburb during the war. Places were being bombed all around London. The government issued a voluntary evacuation of children to the country. My nana wasn’t for it, but my grandad convinced her it was for the best. While in London we took a road trip to Ware which in her foggy recallection is where she was evacuated to. I worked for Marriott HQ(here in the States) at the time and got a great rate on Hanbury Manor. Our room wasn’t in the main manor house, but in the Garden Court. My mom, now in her mid seventies felt a sense of familiarity. When she asked at the front desk if there was ever a convent in this area they said, «You’re staying where it used to be!‘ We were actually in the very spot where she was processed for her temporary living arrangements! There are even tombstones of the old nuns out in the back. It was pure luck that we ended up here. As for the hotel, it is a lovely place to stay to get away. If you are a golfer or spa addict you’ll be contented, but if not you’ll be bored to tears if you stay more than two nights because as far as I could tell, the only nightlife is the nearby pub, Sow & Pigs, which incidentally is across the street from the house she lived in for her time away from the city. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had dinner twice here as there are no other options and it was rainy during most of our stay. Our guest quarters were pretty average; we stayed in the Garden Court which we were transported to via a golf cart. It would have been nice to stay in the manor house itself. I am glad we got to visit Hanbury Manor. It was certainly a trip down Memory Lane for my mum.
