I am a great lover of all things Hay-on-Wye, and therefore quite often make the trip up from Cardiff to this little town overflowing with bookshops. And every single time I do so, I end up sitting, quite happily in Oscar’s. Although there are a lot of restaurants around town, Oscar’s is often the most popular place at lunch time due to its reasonable pricing and delicious menu. While other establishments may be serving salmon fillets and lamb shanks, Oscar’s sticks to pasta bakes, paninis, salads, sandwiches and homemade soup. Oscar’s always has fresh food in lovely hearty and homely combinations. They’re also very good at their vegetarian menu. The only downside to Oscar’s is that the space is very small and the table cramped, which means it’s really not wheelchair accessible or suitable for prams. At lunchtime it can get very busy, but once you’re claimed a table, you should be fine!
