Antico Restaurant

Antico is possibly my favourite Henley restaurant. The service is superb — friendly, well-​mannered, and knowledgable. The food is good with a wide range of traditonal Italian dishes rather than just pizza and pasta.
The setting looks rather dated, but I think that’s part of its charm. It’s a relaxed place, rather than a fast-​paced production line type restaurant.
Highly recommend it!

Henley would be much poorer without a place as consistent & well respected as ‘Anticos’.

A lovely old-​school Italian restaurant. £19 a head with a good selection of wines, you will always be greeted as a lost member of the hosts family.
This isn’t Jamie Oliver or Strada Italian cooking but original home-​cooked fare. Expect pheasant, wonderful Bresaola, creamy risotto, perfectly cooked pasta in a charming and peaceful environment.
You won’t be rushed over your food and you will enjoy your time there. A perfect place for a romantic meal.

Stupendously overpriced for basic Italian food. Nothing special I don’t feel — look to pay around £50 a head for a basic menu and 1 glass of wine.

Ok — so I stand corrected. Been back here to find out for myself after I was told that this place wasn’t so expensive as it used to be.
It was true the food can be cheaper: 2 people, set meal for £20 if you go for the basic (anything really nice you need to pay a bit more (usually around another £4) and a bottle of wine to total around £35 a head.
Food is traditional Italian (rather than the bog-​standard pasta and pizza), but I’d still say the atmosphere isn’t brilliant. Oh, and they didn’t leave the wine on the table, but insisted on taking it away somewhere and then pouring it out for you — which I found a little irritating to be honest.
