It’s nice and(most of the time) quiet, with a lounge-y feel, that’s a great contrast to the other places on the broadway in Haywards Heath, I’d say it attracts a more«civilized» crowd than other places in the neighborhood, which is nice if you don’t feel like going balls to the wall and blacking out. The drink prices are about average for the area, maybe a bit on the expensive side, but they’re always good and you can usually get at least a couple of decent shots in on a £20 with your beers.

The Star is the place for ‘drinkers’ of the Broadway, compared to those that want to go for the trendy bars. This is backed up by the expansive range of dark star ales they have on tap and ‘good old boys’ propping up the bar. It’s the kind of place in clientele and décor that could come right out of the 50’s or 60’s. Don’t take that as a negative thing though. This place has proper pub charm from the landlady with her dogs, down to the traditional bar with glasses with handles lined up on the shelves above the counter. They will occasionally get karaōke in and also show sporting events. There is a covered garden area where you can smoke, but it backs onto a busy road losing some of the pleasantness of drinking al fresco. This is the kind of place that it’s worth getting to know the locals where you are sure to hear a random, amusing or crazy story as you chat at the bar. A refreshing change from the designer bar epidemic sweeping the Broadway.

Great little pub situated right on the Broadway in Haywards Heath. This used to be my local when I went to college in the town. It has a good mix of old rustic styled furniture and contemporary décor. They have a really good, really reasonable menu available with some very interesting choices. My favourite is the roast beef yorkshire wrap served with a nice jug of dripping gravy. There’s plenty of real ales on tap and some nice seating outside for you to watch the world drift by.
